    Personal Values

    Personal Values

What are values? Core Values/ Ethics (Our focus is personal)

Personal values are the things that are important to us, the characteristics and behaviours that motivate us and guide our decisions.

In ethics, value denotes the degree of importance of some thing or action, with the aim of determining what actions are best to do or what way is best to live (normative ethics), or to describe the significance of different actions.

    Why are they important?

Values matter because you’re likely to feel better if you’re living according to your values and to feel worse if you don’t. This applies both to day-to-day decisions and to larger life choices.

A highly developed values system is like a compass. It serves as a guide to point you in the right direction when you are lost.”

― Idowu Koyenikan, Wealth for All: Living a Life of Success at the Edge of Your Ability

If you value adventure, for example, you’ll probably feel stifled if you let yourself be pressured by parents or others into making “safe” choices like a stable office job and a settled home life. For you, a career that involves travel, starting your own business, or other opportunities for risk and adventure may be more appropriate.

Why should we adopt a set of values?

    -Decision making, —> goals, relationships

-My example of printing out values and pasting them around

How can we integrate values in our lives?

-Having a conversation with ourselves, being honest no BS….

    -Making adjustments when needed

    What you should do?

-Most of us don’t have any core values systems. We follow society, religion etc.

Silent tragedy —> death of individuality, (not talking about extremes)
