Consent Culture in Sex Work, Relating & Wider Society with Kitty Stryker

This is a fascinating conversation covering some of Kitty’s extensive exploration of consent culture - from her BDSM journey and noticing boundary crossing as a submissive, to intimate relationships to the wider perspective of doing our best to educate ourselves on consent culture whilst acknowledging that in a capitalist, white supremacist patriarchy, we cannot reach ideals.   We talk about consent in the realms of sex work and how consent can often be a privilege.   She gives practical advice on how to practice saying yes and no and how to learn when we cross others’ boundaries, as well as tips on how to embody consent culture within ourselves, relationships and work spaces.  Kitty Stryker has been working on defining and creating a consent culture for over 10 years through her writing, workshops, and website consentculture.com. She's the editor of "Ask: Building Consent Culture", and is especially interested in bringing conversations about consent out of the bedroom into everyday life. Additionally, Kitty is a sex worker and academic on the history of obscenity, censorship, and queer culture. In her copious free time, Kitty enjoys working as a street medic for direct actions, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and caring for her two cats. She identifies as a queer, asexual, sober, anarchist, and femme.  Social Media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/kittystrykerFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/officiallykittystryker  Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@kittystrykerPatreon: patreon.com/kittystryker  The Sex & Money podcast is here to have open conversations around porn, prostitution and other paid sexual services. Humanisation and Acceptance of Sex Workers with Maggie McNeill

Maggie McNeill is yet another guest exhibiting a sexual nature along with a very intellectual, wise and multi-faceted nature. We chat about taking a wider focus on the sex industry and on sex workers themselves. Through her many years of experience, Maggie shares some of her perspectives, resolving that rehumanising is the key to people getting along better - which applies to sex workers and consumers of their services, as much as all of us.    Maggie McNeill was a librarian in suburban New Orleans, but after an acrimonious divorce she took up sex work; from 1997 to 2006 she worked first as a stripper, then as a call girl and madam.  She eventually married her favorite client and retired to a ranch in Oklahoma, but returned to escorting part-time in 2010 and full-time in 2015 after another divorce (this time amicable) and a move to Seattle.  She’s been a sex worker rights activist since 2004, and since 2010 has written “The Honest Courtesan”, a daily blog which discusses sex work, politics, anarchism, philosophy and other topics. She has also published articles in venues such as Reason and the Washington Post; given innumerable lectures, talks, radio & video interviews; and is frequently consulted by academics and journalists as an expert on sex work.   Blog: http://maggiemcneill.wordpress.com/ Twitter: @Maggie_McNeill   The Sex & Money podcast is here to have open conversations around porn, prostitution and other paid sexual services.  You can watch video episodes on YouTube.  With me, Georgie Arabella, Somatic Sexologist and Intimacy Facilitator. Learning From & Overcoming Porn Addiction with Dimitri Douchin

In this episode, Dimitri shares about overcoming his porn addiction, what the porn we like can teach us about ourselves, and why it's powerful for the consumers.    As he shares, it can be hard to be helpless to a tool that we have in front of us and constantly seeking external sources of dopamine, but through progressive detachment from pornography on a qualitative and quantitative level, one's relationship to it can healthily change.    Dimitri is a psychosexual therapist and Founder of Unhooked, an online treatment and community for Pornography Addiction. Originally from France and with a background in astrophysics, Dimitri branched out to explore personal development, the game of life and sexuality as a main determinant of individual and cultural human experience. His research is dedicated to mapping the link between trauma and the construction of sexual fantasies. When not working in the psychosexual field, Dimitri develops himself in cultural astronomy, acting, permaculture and martial arts.   Unhooked website: https://www.unhooked.care/ The Sex & Money podcast is here to have open conversations around porn, prostitution and other paid sexual services. As it becomes less taboo, I intend to share a variety of perspectives on the workers and consumers in the industry.  With me, Georgie Arabella, Somatic Sexologist and Intimacy Facilitator.
