Why does my dog listen to the trainer but not to me? | EP 8 |

On this episode of she gets SIT done we discuss why it is that your dog may be listening well to your trainer, but not so much to you.
Is it you? Is it the trainer? Is it the training program? Or why does my dog listen to me but not my husband??

We deep dive into reasons why dog training doesn't 'transfer' as we hope it would. We also look into the various different training programs you can do if you decide to go with a professional such as:
    - Groupclasses
    - Private training
    - Bootcamp training
    - Board & trains

We discuss the differences between all of them looking at pro's and con's for all so you can make an informed decision on what is best for your dog, your budget and your training style.

Living with a reactive dog and what it does to you |ep 7| She gets SIT done

Living with a reactive dog and what it does to you |ep 7| She gets SIT done

Do you own a reactive dog?
There is a lot of information out there on how to deal with your reactive dog in terms of training and improving their training... but how are YOU feeling with your reactive dog? And how are YOU coping?

When you have a reactive dog or a dog with aggression issues you have to come to terms with the fact that you can't do certain things you had in mind when you originally got the dog.
The doggy playdates, the fun on the beach, seeing your dog play with other dogs, taking them to cafes. All of these things seem far away for you or maybe even impossible and it's a process coming to terms with the fact you won't have those moments.

Living with a reactive dog also causes a 'trauma' response in YOU as the dog owner and your dog's reactivity basically turns into your reactivity and I feel like it's not often talked about besides being told 'just be less stressed because your dog feels it down the lead'.

    In this episode we discuss:
    - Coming to terms with having a reactive dog and what that means for your lifestyle
    - The 'trauma' it causes for you as the owner
    - Labelling your dog as reactive can be helpful but also detrimental to your progress
    - How to cope with unhelpful people commenting on your dog when they're having a meltdown
    - That progress isn't linear and ups and downs are normal
    - That if you are consistent you will get results, but if you don't get any results even after a very long time it may be time to change up the training program
    - It's okay to correct a reactive dog and we need to get rid of the stigma that 'fear reactive dogs' can't be corrected for being excessive or over reacting.

A really interesting and helpful account to follow is: Handlersandhumans on IG.

We'd love to hear what you think of this episode!

Dog trainers should not make you feel like SH*T. |EP 5| She Gets Sit Done

Dog trainers should not make you feel like SH*T. |EP 5| She Gets Sit Done

In today’s episode we wil be discussing dog trainers that make you feel SHIT on social media/in real life training. We discuss the difference between sport dog trainers and pet dog trainers and that you need to find the right dog trainer for your dog. That you don’t have to spend 4 hours a day training your dog or you’re a ‘bad owner’, that you can use whatever equipment you like without being ridiculed for it and that it’s okay if your dog sleeps on your bed. If a dog trainer comes in and makes you feel bad and is very ‘their way or the highway’, it may be better to find a different trainer where you are able to learn and feel validated.Don’t just take Facebook, instagram and TikTok as ‘real’.

Welcome to She Gets SIT done.
A dog training podcast for dog owners that doesn’t beat around the bush and gives you helpful, realistic tips and guidance on training your dog and solving issues you may be having.

In the first episode we discuss OVER-socialisation. Yes, you read that right. Over-socialisation is when we expose our dog to too many people/dogs and eventually end up with a dog that is FRIENDLY off lead.. but a nightmare on lead, especially when they see another dog or person.

We feel it’s a topic that isn’t often discussed but its a HUGE topic a lot of people struggle with. We hope this can help you.
    What do we cover:
    1. What is oversocialisation?
    2. Why does it happen so much?
    3. What is GOOD socialisation?
    4. When can my dogs socialise?
    5. Signs of overspecialisation in dogs

Our top 4 tips to start working on TODAY.
    1. Only meet RELEVANT people on your walks/outings.
    2. When you meet a relevant person expect calmness from your dog. No attention for hyper mindsets!
    3. Practise hanging out and making things a non event.
    4. Parallel Walking when meeting new dogs is a fantastic way to introduce dogs and teach them calm behaviours.
