With them, Andrew Martinez, who had recently attracted international media attention for his decision to attend classes while entirely nude. The cover photo was captioned, “The Naked Guy—A New Micro-Culture?”1 Andrew Martinez’s nude activism began several years before he arrived in Berkeley. According to a 2006 article in the New York Times, in the summer of 1990, at seventeen, Martinez had “fallen under the nonconformist spell of Henry David Thoreau” and began questioning the rationality of having to wear clothing in 90-degree weather. A modesty proposal

In a society that claims to value equality and justice, the double standard around bare chests remains a glaring contradiction. That women are policed, fined, and shamed for exposing their chests while men bare theirs with impunity is plainly discriminatory, rooted in outdated notions of morality. The human chest—two nipples and some fatty tissue—is fundamentally the same, yet we continue to treat them differently. If decency is truly the goal, the unchecked male nipple must be addressed. Far from innocent, it has been fetishized in advertising, film, and fitness culture as a symbol of power and virility. The solution is obvious: regulate male toplessness with the same rigor imposed on women. Fairness demands nothing less. Goodbye to Goodland

Goodland Country Club in Hackettstown, New Jersey, one of the nation’s oldest traditional nudist clubs, quietly closed its doors this spring. In a March 25th statement posted on both the club’s Facebook page and their website, owner and president Jack Korzilius announced his retirement and the immediate shutdown of all facilities, including the sun field, pool, sauna, and hot tub. This closure marks the end of a ninety-year-old institution. Korzilius, who has owned the resort for the past fifty years, expressed heartfelt gratitude to loyal patrons, reflecting on the cherished memories and rich legacy of this historic naturist landmark. How nude figure drawing helped me find myself

This month, my figure drawing group Defining Bodies will be seven years old. The group’s setup and membership have changed a LOT in those seven years, far from our humble Facebook origins, but I think today we’re stronger than we’ve ever been. The companies that typically advertise in these publications tend to have ads that could fit into any popular publication. However, the one found may be unique as an ad just for nudists.
