Each episode convenes a seasoned elder, middle-aged, and younger Black woman to discuss a single topic ranging from changing perspectives on sex to what you wish you knew about money in your 20's to the collective state of our womanhood in these contemporary times. Their unique perspectives through provocative, and introspective dialogue that can only come from the safe space that is created by Black women regardless of age. By delving into subjects that affect women across generations, this podcast provides a space for commonality, familiarity, and honesty, through insightful and sage discussions.     Surviving Foster Care with Tyese Styles and Tawanna Brown

    What happens when the resilience of foster youth meets the power of advocacy? Join us as we engage in a powerful conversation with Tyese Styles, a remarkable entrepreneur and champion for foster youth, who shares her compelling journey from a turbulent childhood to finding stability and purpose. Tyese opens up about her experience of being removed from her home due to abuse at age nine and navigating multiple foster homes, which included facing further mistreatment. Her life took a turn for the better at age 13 when she found a nurturing environment with a foster mother, shining a light on the critical need for compassionate support within the foster care system.  Our discussion extends beyond personal narratives to examine the systemic issues many foster children encounter, particularly focusing on the experiences of Black youth. We highlight the inspiring story of 21 year old Tawanna Brown, whose involvement with the New Jersey Youth Council transformed her life, turning past struggles into a platform for empowerment. Despite the challenges and lack of resources in the child welfare system, the support of dedicated CASA volunteers and her relentless spirit guided her toward becoming a youth council coach.     We're Back! Still Empowering Women Across Generations

    We’re back and more energized than ever! It’s been a whirlwind of experiences, from electrifying stages at Essence Fest to powerful moments at the DNC. This episode of "Across Generations" is all about reflection and celebration. I open up about the importance of having spaces dedicated to Black women, where we can discuss everything from the fluidity of our sexual identities to our challenges with online dating, and even our place in the world of sports. And yes, witnessing a Black woman stepping into a position of leadership for our nation is a milestone we must acknowledge, even as we confront the harsher realities of global conflicts. Kamala Harris's recent debate performance left me in awe, and I couldn’t help but reflect on my personal experiences with her. Her ability to own a room is nothing short of inspiring, and it’s moments like these that remind us of the critical need for voter mobilization and awareness. I also share my thoughts on media consumption, stressing the importance of diverse news sources, like The New York Times, Al Jazeera, and The Root, while sounding a cautionary note on the often misleading world of social media. Finding the balance between staying informed and not falling into the trap of disinformation is a tightrope we all walk. Lastly, let's talk about the power of connection among Black women. We dive into how social media can be both a tool for spreading truth and a weapon for misinformation, especially against marginalized communities. It's imperative that platforms hire more native Spanish speakers to better address targeted disinformation. I also reflect on the profound sense of community I've felt at our annual retreats—a sanctuary for open dialogue and mutual support. A recent heartfelt encounter on a flight underscored just how deep our unspoken connections run.
