Most of the time on the podcast, my guests and I have discussions that are valuable, if a little theoretical. Today is different. My guest, Scott Robson, is a double-certified coach who specializes in helping entrepreneurs work through the inherent risk and vulnerability of owning a business. To that end, he graciously engaged me in a live coaching session to explore my “adaptotype” as an entrepreneur. Scott developed these adaptotypes to help us understand how we relate to risk, goals, and overwhelm in our businesses, and I took a lot away from our conversation. I hope you will as well!

Sometimes I look back and reflect on little moments over the years that made a big impact on our practice. One of those moments was a relatively brief conversation a few years ago with my friend, Uriah Guilford from the Productive Therapist, about scheduling intakes. He mentioned that his practice moved to a booking system for scheduling intake calls rather than trying to catch people on the phone via organic callbacks. We started experimenting with it and haven’t looked back. Today I’m sharing how we put it into place.

Our country’s population of older adults is growing by the day, with the percentage of individuals over 65 increasing from about 18% today to about 23% over the next 20-30 years. Working with older adults can be incredibly gratifying, and, there are some nuances to specializing with this population. Dr. Seda Terzyan is my guest today, and we’re talking all about working with older adults. While we spend some of our time on the clinical aspects of this work, we dedicate most of the interview to how Seda designed her practice for this population. Here are a few topics that we cover:

    * The importance of neurologists and other physicians as referral sources

    * Environmental choices that benefit older adults

    * Whether to take insurance or not

    * Picking good clinicians to work with older adults

Pediatric genetic disorders are more common than you may think. The most prevalent genetic disorder, Down syndrome, occurs in approximately one of every 700 live births. Our topic for today, 22q deletion syndrome, is a genetic disorder that occurs in roughly one of every 1200 live births. Even in a relatively small school district, we could run into a handful of kids with 22q. While many of us aren’t experts in this area, Dr. Ed Moss definitely is. He’s worked with 22q kids for over 30 years and is here today to share a wealth of information. Some topics that we cover include:

    * Characteristics of 22q and the behavioral phenotype

    * Cognitive profile variations in 22q kids

    * The typical battery for testing 22q kids

    * Recommendations and intervention for kids with 22q

Would you rather read the transcript? Click here.

If you’ve listened to the podcast for any length of time, you know that I’m a big fan of blocking time on your schedule to work “on” the business instead of “in” the business. I’ve also talked frequently about the role of “think weeks” in my own practice development journey. But what if you don’t have the bandwidth or ability to take an entire week? Or even an entire day? Enter the “think morning.” In this episode, I’m talking through a sample schedule for a think day that you can totally steal and use for yourself! (Just a note that if you don’t want to copy everything while you’re listening, just hit the link for the transcript for the written version)
