Do you remember those Choose Your Adventure Books when you were a kid? They were an interactive book series where YOU got to decide the outcome of the story. The book series is set up where you typically go on an adventure and are in charge of your destiny. Along the way you must use your talents, intuition, and intellect to guide your choices to survive the adventure. Let’s say you’re moving about your adventure then all of a sudden a dragon is revealed on your path. How will you move forward? Will you turn to page 7 to use your weapon in your backpack to fight him or turn to page 18 to try and outrun him? Every choice matters. But you can always choose differently to alter the path of your story and change your results. This goes for your life too!

We are going to have so much fun sharing stories, revealing insights, trying on new perspectives, and participating in some life-changing experiences together. Did we just become best friends?! YEP. Buckle up, friend, because this is about to get really good. You are about to embark on your greatest adventure yet-- to feel confident enough and worthy enough to claim your life back and take those subtle and bold steps in creating everything you really want.

The only questions you need to start asking yourself are what adventure do you want to go on and which paths do you want to explore? Jump in and let’s have some fun!

Path 2: Find the Message in the Mess with Jean Coyle

I loved having this awesome conversation with Wilderness Therapy expert, Jean Coyle. Jean shares her passion for her work as a field guide at First Light Wilderness Therapy, the impact trauma has on each of our lives, and the importance of cultivating social-emotional skills.

Specifically, we go into the different types of trauma and its effects on how we reason, how we understand, how we cope, and ultimately how we regulate ourselves in the world. Take a listen to learn more about what it means to navigate your life with your lid flipped, how to strengthen your coping skills, and how to cultivate more meaning in your life by using your WHY as your guide. See you there!

The practice [PLAY NOW]: @28:00 Learn about The Quick Coherence Technique by Heart Math to check in with yourself and help you regulate your nervous system so you can respond to your life with more confidence and ease.

    About Jean:
Jean began her journey in the outdoor industry in college, at Loyola University Maryland. During her time at Loyola, she was an active member of the Outdoor Adventure Experience Program (OAE) program. During this time, she led white water kayaking trips with fellow students. Jean learned that a joy she has in life is facilitating challenges and teaching in the outdoors. As graduation came closer, she was looking for a way to work with adolescents in the outdoors as well as combing her interest in working with families. As a result, she went to work for the Family In Need of Service (FINS) Program in Central and Southern Florida. This program was a partnership with the Department of Juvenile Justice System as well as North Carolina Outward Bound. During her time at the FINS program, she was an instructor, staff trainer, and course director. She worked with students ages 12 - 17 leading 20-day canoeing trips and teaching lessons in communication, decision-making skills as well as emotional management skills. In 2020 when this program closed Jean found her way to SUWS of the Carolinas and began her journey in Wilderness Therapy. Jean spent six months as a Field Guide before transitioning over to First Light Wilderness Therapy as a Field Director. In Jean's role as a Field Director she hires, trains, and mentors staff. Jean is passionate about creating community in the industry both amongst field guides as well as programs because at the end of the day we are all trying to be the best versions of ourselves to better work with our families. Our families deserve the best version of us, our students deserve the best version of us, and we as individuals deserve to be the best version of ourselves.
