Episode 15: CRASH! at the Museum
In this episode we hear from Ashkan Pakzad, Dan O’Flynn and Julie Dawson, not radiologists, but experts in their field that have embraced computed tomography among other imaging techniques in their research. The catch? Their research has involved the imaging of ancient and historical artefacts, revealing remarkable insights into not only their inner workings, but also our world, our history and ourselves.

Episode 14 - I is for International - “In this episode we hear from Giulia Benedetti and Jina Pakpoor, both radiologists now working in London but from very different yet equally fascinating backgrounds. In our discussion, we hold up a mirror to UK academic radiology training by reflecting on their experiences in Italy and the U.S., looking at how research is ingrained, given time and money, and mentored as part of overall training and a strong departmental ethos. We also talk about the personal challenges involved in an international move, and why they had both been inspired to explore this in the first place.”

CRASH! Podcast: Episode 13: I is for Interdisciplinary

In this episode we hear from individuals with substantial experience in imaging research, but all from very different backgrounds: Christina Malamateniou from City University London (Radiography), Graham Treece from the University of Cambridge (Engineering), and Angela Darekar from University Hospital Southampton (MRI Physics). Despite their different career paths, our guests show that there are core themes to research that include a dedication to exploration, collaboration, and mentorship, and how they are ultimately motivated by the challenge of translating a problem from first ideas to clinical implementation that directly benefits the lives of patients.

CRASH! Podcast: Episode 12: I is for Industry

In this episode we hear from three radiologists that have all flown into the Pharmaceutical industry: Greg Makris at Bayer, Jamie MacKay (returning from Episode 3) at AstraZeneca, and Neel Patel formerly of GlaxoSmithKline and now at Telix Pharmaceuticals. Rather than a game of beach volleyball, our guests (quite sensibly) talk about how they made their move into the industry, how they keep their radiology skills up, and the value their clinical experience brings to their work. Find out more about a career in Pharma by getting in touch (see show notes for contact details). Listener warning: this episode contains several weak references to a recent movie release…

It’s a fanfare return for our pioneering guests from the first ever CRASH! Podcast episode released on 21st October 2020. We find out how the last year-and-a-half has gone for Madhu Chetan from Oxford, Jim Zhong from Leeds, and Amy Sharkey from London, talking about COVID jostles, life past and present as an Academic Clinical Fellow, and ideas for what we could do to optimise the academic training experience. Plus this time we pitch our guests not against the CRASH! Test grid, but against each other in a (mildly) fiendish head-to-head.
