Whilst our modern world questions the notion of commitment in love, God loves His people steadfastly and faithfully. May you find that faithful love of God in the good news of His Son. 2. Faithful Leader. Israel needs a faithful shepherd-king to lead them to God's promise. Whilst Joshua and David fulfilled their roles to some degree, there is only one who is the ultimate shepherd-king who can lead us to that promised spiritual rest- our Lord Jesus Christ. 3. Faithful Living. Israel is called to consecration and commitment (via the offerings and vows) as a response to God's love. We too will find the ultimate joy of living in communion with God

    Peor, Phinehas & Our Priest [Numbers 25]

    By Pastor Jason Lim Balaam and Balak could not curse Israel. But they successful plotted to snare Israel in sin and brought God's righteous wrath and judgment upon them. Thankfully, Phinehas, the priest and chief officer amongst the priests (1Ch 9:20), stood up and purged the sin in the camp by spearing Zimri & Cozbi. He was jealous with a zeal for the Lord. And in his zeal, he turned away the wrath of God from the people of Israel. Our Great High Priest Jesus Christ also averts God's wrath due upon sinners like us, but not by taking it out on His enemies, but by absorbing it on Himself. He was nailed and then speared on his side. He now stands before God pleading for us. He purged us from our sins by His zeal for God's name.

Like his grandfather Abraham, he wanted to stake a claim of faith in the land of promise. He believed in God fully even though he had not possessed the land. And he wanted all his family to know. And he ensured this message of faith in the burial arrangements. So Jacob wanted to preach, even in his death, that God is trustworthy. God's people should also be concerned about our testimony. Someone said, "Be careful how you live; you will be the only Bible some people ever read."

    Joseph Tests His Brothers [Genesis 42-47]

    By Pastor Jason Lim Forgiveness is unilateral. Reconciliation is bilateral. Forgiveness requires a change of mind for the offended. Reconciliation is that plus the change of ways for the offender. Reconciliation = Forgivesness + Repentance. The story of how Joseph tests his brothers is a lesson on this equation "Reconciliation = Forgiveness + Repentance". It is also a story of how guilt brings great grief. But most of all, it is a story of how God's providence always works out His promises. Nothing in the life of the Christian is accidental. It is all intentional. It is all providential.

    It's Time For Your Promotion [Genesis 40,41]

    By Pastor Jason Lim Pain and suffering can make people feel like God has forsaken them. But the story of Joseph proves that God is with His people whether we are in prosperity or in pain. As Augustine once put it, “God had one son on earth without sin; He never had any without suffering.” We must then learn to "Interpret your circumstances by God’s love, not God’s love by your circumstances.” The greatest proof of God's love is the gospel of Jesus Christ (Rom 5:8). And it's only when we are confident of God's love that we can be faithful in our station. Perhaps one day, we will see the big "why" of our sufferings in this life. That day may be during our lifetime here, or it may be in the life that is to come. But we can be sure that we will see that day. Let us then suffer well and serve well. After all, Jesus suffered and gave himself for God's will, and secured eternal glory for Himself, His Father, and for His people.

    Come Lie With Me [Genesis 39]

    By Pastor Jason Lim Sexual sin is like Covid-19- it's a pandemic. It strikes even the gathered church. But it is more devastating in that people generally do not like to talk about it, much less deal with it. Joseph was however a model of sexual purity. Despite persistent temptations, he feared God and would not sin against God in any sexual compromise. The temptations he faced were difficult, but his deliberations were God-centred, and his response was decisive. This is a sermon that gives you a handle on how you can resist sexual temptation. Whether it be pornography, pre-marital sex, affairs, or adulteries, you can access God's grace as you learn to Flee, Fight Fellowship, Fortify & Fulfil. Find out more in this sermon. But most of all, realize that there is forgiveness in the gospel of Jesus Christ. You do not need to clean up before you can come to Christ (you cannot be clean by yourself anyway), but you can come to Christ and He can clean you up.
