Episode Fifteen | The Slocum Massacre of 1910

Texocity

IT'S THE QUINCEANERA EPISODE!

In today's episode of the Texocity series, Donna describes the most gruesome genocide to happen in Texas history- The Slocum Massacre of 1910.

Slocum, TX was a predominantly African American town in 1910 when a White Mob terrorized the town killing every African American in sight. It wasn't until 2011 that Texas recognized this event as a historical event that happened and a historical marker was created and placed in 2016 to commemorate and remember those who passed.

Most of the information provided was from the book "Texas Obscurities: Stories of the Peculiar, Exceptional, & Nefarious" by E.R. Bills. E.R. Bills is an excellent author who has written several books about Texas history.
