    Derrick D. Jones, Ph.D and superstar Grad Student of UNC Greensboro joined us today to discuss his research with MRSA, as well as his journey through grad school and the obstacles along the way. They touch on mentorship and mentee-ship and just how powerful these connections can be. Dr. Jones expands on his work with increasing inclusivity for marginalized groups within the field of STEM and graduate students in general. As a huge mental health advocate, Dr. Jones walks us through his mental health journey and gives “planet-shaking” advice on how to remember to celebrate and continue to build your community despite these uncertain circumstances brought forth by the pandemic. Lastly, always remember YOU were CHOSEN and to always believe in YOURSELF!

    Dr. Lennon, Ph.D, joins us today to speak on the mission of CAPS (Center for Counseling and Psychological Services) at UNC Charlotte. She touches on not only the inside services CAPS offers, but also the outside resources they use to connect with students. We discuss the impacts of mental health on physical health and how it can also transcend vice versa. As we are all trying to navigate through these unprecedented times it is important to find a sense of community and an appropriate outlet, whether it be transformative yoga or finding a Healing and Empowerment Gathering with those who identify with you.
