    42 to Doomsday - The Death of Doctor Who?

    Episode 114 - Lock up your mothers and pull out your favourite bottle of red as the Statler and Waldorf of Doctor Who podcasting return with a bang! In this episode we host Aron Challinger, noted merchandising maestro and all round (or is that oval) good egg to chew over the parlous state of Doctor Who merchandising and rue the missed opportunities. We then divert to take a massive whack at the deplorable latest series (is it 1 or 14?) of our favourite show.  Did expectations match reality? But fear not, we end on our trademark high!     42 to Doomsday - The Great Curator (of the Hoarder tapes!)

    Episode 110 - Everyone in fandom remembers the bombshell news late in 2022 heard exclusively in episode 106 – Unleash the Hoard(ers)! of the 42 to Doomsday podcast, announcing the discovery of a hoard of audio-visual material recorded off domestic television in Australia dating back to the early 1970s.  We promised you, our loyal listeners, that we would keep you up to date with any new information as it came to hand.  Well, we come through with our promise big time by bringing you an exclusive interview with Professor Jason Bainbridge, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design, the man responsible for taking on this vast collection and integrating it into the media studies course at the University of Canberra.  Listen as Professor Bainbridge discusses his history with the show, the role popular culture plays in our present day lives, the state of the Australian television and film industries, before he moves on to discuss the vast scope of the collection, what he hopes to achieve with it academically, and his hopes for what might be waiting to be brought blinking into the light of day.   42 to Doomsday – your go to podcast for the inside running on this fascinating story!

    42 to Doomsday - And Cut it NOW!

    Episode 109 - Doctor Who has always had a troubled relationship over the years with Australian censors.  In this episode we demonstrate how troubled with the able assistance of researcher Mike Pummel who has dug up a treasure trove of correspondence relating to the many cuts that were inflicted upon our favourite show! We discuss the process of how episodes of Doctor Who and other TV shows were submitted for review before transmission and what needed to be excised to achieve a ‘family friendly’ rating during the 60’s 70’s and 80’s. Was there any method to their madness?  Or was it down to an individual's view on how to protect fragile Australian minds from British filth and violence? What other shows failed to escape the dreaded guillotine and ‘Holy censorship!’, we detail the cuts made to Caves of Androzani Part 4 and would have Mark’s ‘directors cut’ suggestion for the ending saved the show from cancellation? All this plus Rob goes back to the sweet, sweet 90s and gives us all a taste of Young Rob's percolating bile against the New Adventures!     42 to Doomsday - Staff Xmas Party 8 (Days a Week!)

    Episode 107 – We are back (and just in time for Xmas!) While Rob is forages through the hoarder's house for any fragments of Power of the Daleks, Mark, Dave and Richard reconvene! We reminisce about our favourite and not so favourite convention anecdotes where discuss our (naughty and nice)  encounters with Doctor Who fans and guests alike.  Gas as we regale you with tales of guests who made a beeline for the buffet lunch and then shout through.  And let your mind boggle at the stories of fist fights in the men's room! The dreaded metal pepper pots are the focus of our Target Book Club this episode!  We whisk ourselves away via the power of prose to Skaro, Mechanus, Spiridon and...umm...Skaro again and too close things out we put forward our nominations for Fanwank of the Year Award! All this plus our tribute to the late, great Chris Boucher, find out which co-host’s bottom appeared in the DWB Compendium AND will Dave’s coffee table survive the channelling by Richard of Doctor Who’s number one fan???
