    In his keynote address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, President Joe Biden defended his foreign policy. The address also served as Biden’s farewell speech to the international stage as president. The annual meeting comes amid the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. Biden called for a cease-fire in the Israel–Hamas war, lamenting the deaths on both sides. In the Middle East, Israel said it killed a top commander with Hezbollah’s missile and rocket unit as the Israeli military traded fire with Hezbollah again. Meanwhile, the death toll from a massive Israeli bombing campaign has climbed to nearly 560 people. Former President Donald Trump is campaigning in Savannah, Georgia. He pitched a new economic plan, which includes attracting other countries’ factories to the United States and creating what he called new “American industrialism.” Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris said in a radio interview in Wisconsin that she supports ending the filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade.

The move comes in the wake of two assassination attempts targeting former President Donald Trump. Also on Friday, the acting director of the Secret Service admitted that a breach of protocol occurred before the first assassination attempt, saying the employees involved “will be held accountable.” Israel launched a rare airstrike into a suburban area of Beirut on Friday, killing a senior Hezbollah military official. The FBI said Iranian hackers reached out to people associated with President Joe Biden’s campaign before he ended his reelection bid. Federal authorities say the hackers sent information stolen from the Trump campaign to Biden staffers. They said there's no indication that any of Biden's staff replied. Federal agencies say it's part of a wider effort to interfere with the upcoming general election. Israel and Hezbollah engaged in cross-border strikes, as Lebanon reels from deadly back-to-back attacks targeting their electronic devices, including pagers and handheld radios. The attacks left dozens dead and thousands injured.

    At least nine people were killed and over 2,700 wounded, when handheld pagers exploded near simultaneously across Lebanon. The apparent remote attack impacted several hundred members of the Hezbollah terrorist group. Hezbollah blames Israel and has vowed retaliation. Israel has not taken responsibility for the attack. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said his state will launch its own criminal investigation into the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. He added that Florida prosecutors will pursue the most serious charges available under state law, including attempted murder. Vice President Kamala Harris spoke at her first live campaign interview with reporters hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists. She answered questions about Trump's assassination attempt, the Israel-Hamas war, and Springfield, Ohio. Harris will join a live event with Oprah Winfrey in Michigan on Thursday. Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was charged with racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking in a federal indictment. Prosecutors said that for decades, Combs abused, threatened and coerced victims for sexual purposes. He pleaded not guilty. A judge ordered that he be held without bail. OceanGate’s former operations director testified at the US Coast Guard hearing on the Titan submersible implosion. He said that the tragedy could have been prevented if the Occupational Safety and Health Administration had investigated his complaint.

    The suspect in former President Donald Trump's second assassination attempt appeared in court and was charged with two federal gun crimes. Ryan Wesley Routh is believed to have hidden in bushes with a rifle when Trump was golfing in West Palm Beach, Florida. Vice President Kamala Harris said she was deeply disturbed by the possible assassination attempt and condemned political violence. Trump, meanwhile, said political rhetoric by Harris and President Joe Biden may have influenced the suspect. Chinese-owned social media platform Tiktok and the Justice Department presented their oral arguments before a federal appeals court. The judges appeared skeptical of TikTok's arguments against a law that could potentially ban the app in the United States. The U.S. Coast Guard began a two-week hearing that investigates the deep ocean implosion of the Titan submersible in June of last year. The first witness to testify was OceanGate's former engineering director.
