Now We're Here...How Do We Get Out? Podcast

It’s reasonable to say that man has colluded in his own destruction - the only organism on Earth knowingly to do so. For we are aware that intensive animal farming leads to significant climate change, deforestation and the spread of disease. Yet, 99% of all animals are farmed in this way. Furthermore, our increasing reliance on fossil fuels and non-biodegradable materials has led to scientific studies citing a future climate catastrophe. At the heart of it all are humans and we find ourselves teetering on the edge of a perilous precipice. Actor and animal activist Peter Egan and filmmaker Andrew Telling want to know. How do we get out? What can we do to mitigate the current environmental mess and reinstate a sense of ecological balance? In this podcast, Peter and Andrew speak candidly about the issues facing us and explore possible solutions. They talk to global experts on specific issues, sharing their wisdom and insight. Importantly, the discussion is open to all and all opinions are welcome. Judgement is not a pathway to change, nor is it conducive to finding solutions. Questions, thoughts and feedback and welcome. Episode Two - Philip Lymbery | CEO | Compassion in World Farming | Part 1

In the first of a two-part conversation, Peter and Andrew speak Philip Lymbery. Philip is Global Chief Executive Officer of the leading international farm animal welfare organisation, Compassion in World Farming, Visiting Professor at the University of Winchester and the President of Eurogroup for Animals, Brussels. He is an award-winning author, ornithologist, photographer, naturalist and self-confessed animal advocate. For 25 years Philip has worked extensively on animal welfare issues, wildlife and the environment. Peter and Andrew speak to Philip about some of the key global issues generated by our reliance on intensive farming practices. Some of the topics discussed in this episode include: • When and why was intensive factory farming introduced? • Why is animal protein mistakenly considered to pack a greater punch than plant protein? • The deliberately hidden costs of meat and how the consumer unwittingly pays for it three times. • The mass mechanisation of the industry devastating the peace and quiet of the countryside, caging animals and removing human involvement. • The grossly distorted economics that surround the factory farming industry. • Why aren’t Governments stepping in to help find another way? • The power of the meat lobbies. • How we are locked into a system that forces us to collude with our own destruction. • How factory farming underpins climate change, natural devastation, and global pandemics. • How industrial agriculture is stripping the soil of its biodiversity • The life of a factory-farmed chicken. • The gross misuse of anti-biotics on the intensive farming industry.
