    Episode 39 - Modelling in Canada with Fay and Saige

    In this episode I am joined by Vancouver-based models Fay (Alaeria agency) and Saige (Richard's models). In this episode we discuss how they got started in modelling, agencies (the good and bad experiences), getting used to taking bad photos, red flags and the downside to  the industry, plus working with male photographers. We also get into talking about the things black models specifically have to deal with in the industry, and also give advice on what makes for a great photoshoot and overall more comfortable set. We start off the episode with two ice-breaker questions "Who was your childhood crush?" and " What was an embarrassing fashion trend you used to rock?".     Episode 38 - Multidisciplinary Artist Marv

    In this episode I am joined by multidisciplinary artist Marv (he/him). Marv is a Black photographer, painter, music producer, writer and fashion stylist who does portraiture/self portraiture and photojournalism. A lot of his work is about community, mental health and exploring self identity. Marv grew up in Surrey and Vancouver, BC and is currently based in Montreal, QC⁠.⁠ Marv is also the founder of Unity Art Collective and the clothing brand Dope class. Unity art collective is a space and platform made by and for BIPOC people/BIPOC queer and trans people within “canada”. I met Marv in the film industry in 2015 and it was so lovely to chat with him and see how he's grown into such a wise, beautiful human. We discussed many things including: - His artwork and where it stems from - Black identity and what it's like to not fit into the brand of what society expects of you - the BLM movement and how to actually make changes in your life - How being black is not a "trend" in the fashion industry - How being alone in Europe helped Marv grow as a person - Why "making it to the top" doesn't mean you won't feel sad - What does it mean to be "grown"? - Taking accountability, cancel culture and "why do we wait for people's downfall?" ... and more!     Episode 37 - Being a POC in the Workplace with Sneha

    In this episode I am joined by Sneha, my childhood friend. In this episode we chatted about growing up in different places, the benefits of having another ethnic friend and learning to embrace your culture. The main topic of discussion is being a person of colour in the workplace. Sneha shares some experiences so far about what it feels like to "have a seat at the table but not given a microphone" and how she makes her voice heard anyway.     In this episode I am joined by actor and model Destiny Millns to discuss their experience of being non-binary and how they realized they didn't identify with a specific gender. This is a conversation I've been wanting to have for a while, and I'm grateful for Destiny being open to sharing their perspective.     Episode 35 - One Million Trees with Director Everett Bumstead

    In this episode I am joined by director Everett Bumstead. He directed the documentary One Million Trees which was produced by Self Hired and CBC. Everett has been a tree planter and documented the lifestyle/culture in this beautiful documentary (I luckily got to watch it before this episode was recorded). We talk about the tree planting culture in BC, directing, and about his inspiration behind this film. I personally learned a lot by watching this documentary!     Episode 34 - My Luteal: Re-imagining Menstrual Support with Alexa

    In this episode I had the pleasure of interviewing Alexa from the company My Luteal. The philosophy behind this Vancouver-based company is to reimagine the way we view menstruation and how we manage menstruation pain. They have created an all natural menstruation relief cream (which I have tried myself and it's great!), as well as other products that aid in pain management. Alexa explains the science and thought process behind these products in this episode. We also discuss their efforts in campaigning for paid leave for those who suffer from severe menstrual pain. If you know someone who menstruates (which we all do, let's be honest) it is worth listening to this episode as it is very informative. I myself learned a lot and I bet you'll discover a product that will help that person!     Episode 32 - Photographer Jomar Victoria

    In this episode I am joined by my love, Jomar Victoria. He is a talented photographer from Cloverdale, BC, currently working for the Vancouver company Roden Gray and is also apart of the Street Dreams Magazine crew. In this episode we discuss his post-secondary program transition, why and how he got into photography, and the path that led him to the Street Dreams crew. Jomar shares his insight on preparation (influenced by Kobe’s ‘mamba mentality’) and how photography helped him become more present.
