Why Taiwan Doesn’t Catch All the Bluefin Tuna

Mmmmm… Tuna is delicious. Mmmmm-mm! And bluefin tuna is very delicious! 黑鮪魚太好吃了。 Bluefin tuna fish are big. They can be from one and a half meters to three meters long! They can weigh from sixty kilograms to four hundred fifty kilograms! 黑鮪魚身體巨大，牠們可以從1.5到3公尺長，60到450 公斤重 ! In Taiwan, fishermen are very good at catching bluefin tuna. That’s great! They can catch all of these fish! But wait a minute! What about next year? There won't be any bluefin tuna! 台灣的漁夫很會捕撈黑鮪魚，他們可以把黑鮪魚全部抓完。等等! 要是都被抓完了，明年怎麼辦? Well, that won't happen. Taiwan has a rule. Two thousand tons of bluefin tuna can be caught every year. Then Taiwan's fishermen have to stop catching these fish. 好險這件事不會發生，因為台灣有規定，每年只能捕撈總共兩千噸的黑鮪魚。 This year, fishermen caught two thousand tons very fast! Everyone was surprised. Some fishermen wanted to catch more. They can get lots of money for bluefin tuna. But they had to stop. 今年，漁夫很快就補到了2000噸，他們很驚訝，雖然很多人想要多抓幾條來賺錢，但他們必須停止。 Taiwan's rule is smart. Now these fish can grow bigger. They can have more babies. A Very Long Short Space Trip

But some small engines didn't work well. Scientists on Earth didn't know why. But the two astronauts got to the ISS safely. 他們順利到了國際太空站，但是太空船的引擎出了問題! 科學家們都找不出原因。 The engines were not easy to fix. Taitung's Mystery Stone

K*News for Kids 文字檔 (國小) ________________________________ People lived in Taiwan thousands of years ago. We don't know a lot about them. Sometimes we find their things. These things can help us learn more. But sometimes the things are a mystery. 幾千年前，就有人類在台灣生活，我們偶而也會找到一些那些人的遺跡。不過有時候找到的東西是個謎。 A tall, thin stone stands in Taitung. It's very, very old. The top is a half-moon shape. 在台東，有一根又高又細的石柱，非常古老，頂端是半月形的。 What was the stone for? Maybe it was for a building. Maybe it was for an important person. Nobody knows. This stone is a mystery. 石柱有什麼用處呢?也許是建築的一部份，或是某人的紀念碑。沒有人知道。 The stone is in Peinan Site Park. It's near a train station. About forty years ago, Taitung wanted to make the station bigger. 這根石柱位於卑南遺址公園，靠近火車站。 40 年前，台東政府想把車站改得更大。 Workers started to dig. They found some old things! Scientists came. The scientists found more than 2,000 very old and important things! 工人們開挖時，發現一些很古老的東西! 科學家來了，找到 2000多個古代的重要物品! These things were used by people thousands of years ago. Now they are Taiwan's treasures! Peinan Site Park was made to protect them. 幾千年前的人類使用過這些物品，現在它們是台灣的寶藏，卑南遺址公園的建立就是為了保護它們。 The museum there helps us learn about these treasures and the people who used them. Students Want to Save Deer from Cars

People can get hurt too. 鹿被車子撞到可能會死掉，人也可能受傷。 In the U.S., two high school students want to help deer. They want to make a device. It can help stop cars from hitting deer. It has a camera. It also uses artificial intelligence, or AI. 美國有兩個高中生打算製造一個裡面裝有人工智慧相機的設備，讓車子不會再撞到鹿。 How does the device work? The AI camera watches a road. It sees a car… And it sees a deer near the road! Then the device makes sounds! 它是怎麼運作呢? 這個AI相機會監視道路，當它拍到一隻鹿靠近車輛時，便會發出聲音! They are animal sounds. Maybe they're bear sounds! Maybe they're lion sounds! These sounds scare the deer. It runs away! Taiwan’s First Medal in Paris This year, the world came together for the Summer Olympics. It was in Paris. 全世界都在上個月為了巴黎奧運聚在一起 ! Many countries compete in many sports. Some sports are swimming and running. Other sports use guns.* *Skeet uses guns. 許多國家都會參與各項比賽。有些運動是游泳和跑步，也有些運動要使用到槍。定向飛靶射擊比賽就需要用到槍。 In skeet, an athlete shoots two flying discs. They're eleven centimeters wide. That's small! 定向飛靶射擊比賽，選手必須射中兩個飛靶，都只有 11 公分寬，非常的小 ! The athlete says "Pull!" Then the discs fly out very fast! One flies from the left! One flies from the right! Then… Bang! Bang! The athlete shoots two times. He tries to hit both discs. That's hard! 當選手說:「pull ! 放飛靶」時，兩片飛靶會很快地從左右兩邊飛出來，然後…選手發射兩次，要試著打中兩片飛靶，真困難! Lee Meng-yuan is the first Taiwanese skeet athlete at the Olympics. He's 29 years old. Taiwan's Kids Get Free Milk Ahhhh! Milk is good for you. Most of the milk people drink comes from cows. This milk helps your bones and teeth become stronger. 牛奶對身體好，喝牛奶可以幫助骨頭跟牙齒強壯。 Last year, people in Taiwan drank 20 liters of milk each. But that's much less than people in Europe and Australia. Europeans drank 53 liters each. Australians drank 92 liters each! 台灣去年每人平均喝20公升的牛奶，比歐洲跟澳洲人少很多。歐洲每個人一年喝掉53公升，澳洲每人喝92公升。 Taiwan knows that milk is good for kids. So kids from three years old to twelve years old are getting free milk! They're getting it at school. More than one million kids in Taiwan are getting free milk. That's a lot of milk! 台灣知道牛奶對兒童的身體好，所以3到12歲，一共超過100萬個兒童可以在學校免費拿牛奶。 All that milk isn't cheap. Taiwan will pay more than one billion Taiwan dollars every year! 這麼多的牛奶並不便宜，每年需要多花超過十億台幣。 Some kids can't drink milk. But that's okay! They don't have to drink it.
