Radio Soul is a multimedia fiction platform founded by Andrew Hirschhorn, who transitioned from a 30+ year career in law to pursue his passion for storytelling. Radio Soul produces audiobooks, radio dramas, podcasts, and short stories that explore the complexities of the human condition through the lenses of fantasy, science fiction, and the fantastic. Each story reflects elements of history, yet ventures beyond reality to create imaginative narratives that resonate with contemporary themes.
The Vision:
The universe of Radio Soul is filled with a rich tapestry of characters, many of whom reappear across different stories and timelines. At the center of many narratives is a reimagined Dr. Faustus, inspired by Christopher Marlowe's iconic character who sold his soul for knowledge and pleasure. Hirschhorn's Faustus, however, has turned away from his dark past to seek redemption as a paranormal scholar and hero. Alongside Faustus, the stories feature an array of other compelling figures, including:
- Jack Kennedy: An iconic American president embroiled in interdimensional conflicts against Nazis and other malevolent forces in a multiverse where the boundaries of time and reality blur.
- Dinesha: An Ethiopian priestess from the ancient Middle East who evolves spiritually to become a demigoddess, transcending human existence to explore higher planes of reality.
- Stormy: A witch whose story unfolds from rescuing a fallen angel to fighting against demonic invasions and helping to craft the Seals of Solomon alongside a 16th-century witch hunter.
- The Grim Reaper: A unique exploration of existential questions about life, death, and love, featuring the Reaper himself in a romance with a spirit.
Themes and Stories:
Hirschhorn's work includes continuing the legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table after the dissolution of Camelot, imagining a future where these heroes live on not just in their physical feats but in their pursuit of spiritual ideals. His stories honor the enduring spirit of Camelot and its quest for righteousness, showing that "a good thing" need not end.
While Hirschhorn's writing often touches on spiritual themes, he, as a non-denominational interfaith minister, takes no particular stance. His books are not intended specifically for Christians, pagans, atheists, or believers of any faith—they are stories about spirituality in its broadest sense, exploring the universal human quest for meaning and purpose.
The Mediums:
Radio Soul brings its stories to life primarily through two mediums: novels and radio dramas. Many of Hirschhorn's novels are later converted into radio dramas, enriched with sound effects and music in the style of classic radio productions, capturing the imagination of audiences in the tradition of old. Alternatively, some stories are developed directly as radio dramas, bypassing the written form entirely. These productions explore both ancient and modern folklore, including encounters with the Hatman, shadow people, fallen angels, and the multiverse or many-worlds theory, a topic that continues to ignite debate among leading scholars in theoretical physics.
A Unique Perspective:
Hirschhorn brings a nuanced perspective to his storytelling, emphasizing that all humans are flawed beings seeking redemption. His stories are filled with characters who grapple with their past mistakes and are offered the chance to choose a path of light and transformation.
The Founder:
Andrew Hirschhorn, a graduate of Hofstra University where he majored in philosophy, history, and literature, left a 30+ year career in law to follow his true passions. During his time at Hofstra, he was a scholar in ancient history and comparative mythology, earning departmental honors and recognition as a Phi Beta Kappa member. Now, he returns to his intellectual roots, blending history, philosophy, mythology, and modern themes such as quantum physics, artificial intelligence, time
