१२ ज्योतिर्लिंगोंमे से ५ वा है श्री केदारनाथ।  तपस्वी, भस्म लगाने वाले  गिरिश्वर को सदा से ही शांत और दुर्गम जगहे रास आती है । शायद इसीलिए  केदारनाथ मंदिर हिमालय पर्वत की गोद में स्थित 12 ज्योतिर्लिंग में शामिल है। 

इतिहास बताता  है कि, यह मंदिर पांडवों द्वारा बनाया गया था और इसे शिव के मंदिरों में सबसे पवित्र माना जाता है। केदारनाथ तीर्थ की गणना केदारनाथ, बद्रीनाथ, गंगोत्री और यमुनोत्री के रूप में चार धामों में की जाती है। 

Shri Kedarnath is the 5th out of 12 Jyotirlingas. Girishwar, an ascetic who applies ashes, always likes quiet and remote places. Perhaps that is why the Kedarnath temple is included in the 12 Jyotirlingas located in the lap of the Himalayan Mountains.

History states that, this temple was built by the Pandavas and is considered to be the holiest of the Shiva temples. Kedarnath pilgrimage is counted among the four dhams as Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.
