ហោរាយ៉ូណាស និងត្រីដ៏ធំសម្បើម (យ៉ូណាស ១-៤)

ព្រះជាម្ចាស់បានមានបន្ទូលទៅហោរាយ៉ូណាសឲ្យទៅកាន់ក្រុងនីនីវេ ដើម្បីព្រមានប្រជាជនឲ្យបំបែកចេញពីវិធីអាក្រក់របស់ពួកគេ។ ប៉ុន្តែយ៉ូណាសមិនចង់ទៅទេ ដូច្នេះគាត់បានគេចខ្លួនឡើងនាវាមួយដែលកំពុងទៅទិសបញ្ច្រាស។

ព្រះជាម្ចាស់បានចាត់ភ្លៀងព្យុះដ៏ខ្លាំងមកលើសមុទ្រ ហើយអ្នកជិះនាវាបានរកឃើញថាយ៉ូណាសជាមូលហេតុនៃគ្រោះធម្មជាតិ។ តាមការស្នើសុំរបស់យ៉ូណាស ពួកគេបានបោះគាត់ចូលសមុទ្រ ហើយភ្លៀងព្យុះបានឈប់ភ្លាមៗ។ បន្ទាប់មក ត្រីធំមួយបានហែលមកលេបយ៉ូណាស ហើយគាត់ស្ថិតនៅក្នុងពោះត្រីធំនោះអស់រយៈពេល៣ថ្ងៃ៣យប់ ដោយបានអធិស្ឋានទៅកាន់ព្រះ។

ព្រះជាម្ចាស់បានបញ្ជាឲ្យត្រីនោះឱ្យខ្ជាក់យ៉ូណាសចេញនៅលើដីគោក។ លើកនេះ យ៉ូណាសបានស្តាប់បង្គាប់ព្រះ និងបានធ្វើដំណើរទៅកាន់ក្រុងនីនីវេ។ គាត់បានប្រកាសព្រមានប្រជាជនថា ទីក្រុងនឹងត្រូវបំផ្លាញក្នុងរយៈពេល៤០ថ្ងៃ។ ប្រជាជននិងស្តេចរបស់ពួកគេបានប្រែចិត្ត តមអាហារ និងបានអធិស្ឋានសុំសេចក្តីមេត្តា។ ព្រះដែលបានឃើញចិត្តស្មោះត្រង់របស់ពួកគេ បានអត់ទោសពួកគេ ហើយមិនបានបំផ្លាញទីក្រុងនោះឡើយ។

Jonah and the Great Big Fish (Jonah 1 – 4)

God told the prophet Jonah to go to Nineveh and warn the people to turn from their evil ways. But Jonah didn’t want to go, so he ran away by boarding a ship heading in the opposite direction.

God sent a powerful storm, and the sailors discovered that Jonah was the cause. At Jonah’s request, they threw him into the sea, and the storm immediately stopped. Then, a big fish swallowed Jonah, and he stayed in its belly for three days and nights, praying to God.

God had the fish spit Jonah out onto dry land. This time, Jonah obeyed and went to Nineveh. He warned the people that the city would be destroyed in 40 days. The people and their king repented, fasted, and prayed for mercy. Seeing their sincere hearts, God forgave them and did not destroy the city.
