这个短语的起源能追溯到古英语谚语 "Hair of the dog that bit you"，

原意是 "被狗咬后，用咬人的狗的毛发敷伤口（旧时认为能治病）"，

后来逐渐引申为 "用导致不适的东西（此处指酒）来缓解该东西引发的不适"，

现在常简化为 "Hair of the dog"。

例如：
