口语中听到Put two and two together可不是把二和二加起来的意思啦！

不少小伙伴听到这个表达会感到困惑，

“put” 是放置、使处于，“two” 是数字二，“together” 是一起，

字面直译好像是 “把二和二放在一起” 或 “计算二加二”。

但实际使用场景更偏向逻辑推理！

“put two and two together”

意思是 “根据已知线索推断出真相；综合信息得出结论”。

用于当某人通过已有的信息或明显线索，自行琢磨出事情原委时。

这个短语的起源与基础数学运算相关，

二加二的结果简单明确，无需复杂计算，后来逐渐引申为 “通过简单整合信息就能得出明显结论” 的含义，常用来描述不费力的推理过程；

例如：

She saw the muddy shoes by the door and put two and two together—her son had played in the rain.

她看到门口沾泥的鞋子，一下就推断出来了 —— 儿子去雨中玩耍了。

When I mentioned the broken window and his missing baseball, he put two and two together and apologized.

当我提到破了的窗户和他不见的棒球时，他立马综合信息明白了缘由，然后道歉了。
