She has been reading stories and recording them for her grandchildren who live abroad, to help them learn Chinese language and culture. Grandma's story include children's stories, myths, idioms, classics, historical stories, and knowledge of Chinese culture. Lao Lao would like to share her stories to everyone who is interested in Chinese language and Chinese culture!

    西游记-35：取回真经成正果 Journey to the West-35: Retrieving the True Scriptures

    唐僧师徒终于走到了西天，他们在大雷音寺先取到一堆白纸，送了紫金钵盂作礼物，才取到了真经。没想到他们回去时被通天河的老龟翻到水里，经历了八十一难的最后一难。他们四人把经书送回大唐，又回到西天，都成了佛。 Finally, Tang Seng and his disciples arrived at the Western Heaven. They first received a stack of white papers at the Great Thunder Monastery. They presented a purple-golden alms bowl as a gift, and then obtained the true scriptures. Unexpectedly, on their way back, they were flipped into the water by the old turtle of the Milky Way River, experiencing the final of the eighty-one torment. The four of them returned the scriptures to the Tang Dynasty and then went back to the Western Heaven, all achieving Buddhahood.

    儿童故事：武士与龙 Children Story: The Knight and the Dragon

    这个故事来自一本很好看的图画书，作者汤米·狄波拉是美国知名的图画书作家。这个故事里虽然有城堡、武士、大龙，可是和孩子们听过的古代童话完全不同，充满幽默，而且，故事的主人公都爱读书，和喜欢书的小朋友们一样。 This story comes from a very interesting picture book authored by Tommie de Paula, a well-known American picture book writer. Although the story features castles, knight, and a big dragon, it is completely different from the ancient fairy tales children have heard. It's full of humor, and moreover, the main characters in the story all love to read, just like the book-loving children.

    儿童故事：一碗幸福汤 Children Story: A Bowl of Happiness Soup

    小兔子贝拉关心妈妈，自己煮汤给妈妈喝，多可爱呀。听了故事，小朋友还可以知道为什么汤会越煮越少。妈妈们可以给孩子做个小实验，看看一锅水是不是越煮越少了，再仔细给他们讲讲这是为什么。 Little bunny Bella cares for her mother and cooks soup for her to drink, which is so adorable. After listening to the story, children can also understand why the soup diminishes as it cooks. Mothers can conduct a little experiment with their children to see if a pot of water really decreases as it boils, and then explain to them carefully why this happens.

    让孩子记住这个有魔力的字，并且先在家里试一试，看它是不是真的有魔力。再到幼儿园去试一试，回来说说，看效果怎样。不过，像故事里的老爷爷一样，要提醒孩子以什么态度和方式说好这个字呀。 Encourage children to remember this magical word and try it out at home first to see if it really has power. Then, they can try it out at kindergarten and come back to share the results. However, like the grandfather in the story, remind children about the attitude and manner in which they should use this word.

For instance, the methods used by the gray rabbit to outwit the eagle in this story are based on tactics actually employed by rabbits in the natural world. Listening to such stories can greatly enhance children's knowledge.

    成语故事：一窍不通 Idiom Story: (lit.) no single aperture

    故事里孔子说的一窍不通有很强的贬义，这个成语现在的用法却比较中性，常常用于说自己在一个方面什么都不懂，需要学习。可以让孩子学着用，比如：干这个我可一窍不通啊，得拜你为师了。 In the story, this idiom carried a strong derogatory meaning. However, the contemporary usage of this idiom is relatively neutral and often refers to admitting one's lack of understanding in a particular area, indicating the need for learning.

    西游记-36：嫦娥仙子收玉兔 Journey to the West-36: Chang'e Fairy Subdues the Jade Rabbit

    到了天竺国，公主扔绣球招婿，打中了唐僧。其实这公主是假的，真公主被妖精刮到一个寺庙里。妖精是兔子精，不是悟空的对手，差点被悟空打死，嫦娥仙子来求情，原来妖精是天宫捣药的玉兔。悟空把真公主救回了家。 In the Kingdom of Tianzhu, a princess threw a embroidered ball to choose a husband and accidentally hit Tang Seng. However, this princess was fake; the real one was captured by a demon and hidden in a temple. The demon turned out to be a rabbit spirit and was no match for Sun Wukong. He almost killed the rabbit spirit, but Chang'e fairy intervened. It turned out the demon was the Jade Rabbit from the Heavenly Palace, used for pounding medicine. Sun Wukong rescued the real princess and brought her home.

    西游记-35：四星助拿犀牛怪 Journey to the West-35: Four Stars Help Defeat the Rhinoceros Monster

    眼看就要到如来佛祖的圣地了，却还碰到了很厉害的妖怪。这回是三只犀牛精，带着一群牛怪，只靠悟空兄弟几个无法取胜，天上的星君助阵，西海龙王也帮忙，终于打死了妖怪。 Just as they were about to reach the sacred land of the Buddha, they encountered a very powerful monster. This time, it was three rhinoceros spirits accompanied by a group of bull monsters. With just Sun Wukong and his brothers, victory seemed impossible. However, with the help of the heavenly stars and the assistance of the Dragon King of the West Sea, they finally managed to defeat the monsters.
