Teacher: Good morning, class! I hope everyone had a great weekend. 좋은 아침, 학생 여러분! 모두 즐거운 주말을 보냈길 바랍니다. Today, we're going to dive into a new chapter in our science textbook. 오늘은 과학 교과서의 새로운 장을 살펴볼 거예요.
Student 1: Hi, Mrs. Johnson! I didn't understand the last lesson. 안녕하세요, 존슨 선생님! Can you go over it again? 지난 수업을 이해하지 못했어요. 다시 설명해 주실 수 있나요?
Teacher: Of course! I'll be happy to break it down for you. Let's start off by revisiting the key concepts. 물론이죠! 기꺼이 다시 설명해드리겠습니다. 먼저 핵심 개념을 다시 살펴보는 것으로 시작하겠습니다.
Student 2: I'm a bit swamped with assignments from other classes. Can we catch up on those later? 다른 수업의 과제가 너무 많아서요. 나중에 따라잡을 수 있을까요?
Teacher: I understand you might be swamped with work, but ifs important to chip away at your assignments to stay on track. 업무에 쫓기는 것은 이해하지만, 과제를 차근차근 해나가는 것이 중요합니다. We can certainly pitch in to make it more manageable. 저희가 도와드릴 수 있습니다.
Student 3: Mrs. Johnson, can you help me sort through these research materials for my project? 선생님, 제 프로젝트를 위해 이 연구 자료들을 정리하는 것을 도와주실 수 있나요?
Teacher: Absolutely! How about after class? And for the rest of you, don't forget to knock out your homework by the end of the week. 물론이죠! 수업이 끝나면 어때요? 그리고 나머지 학생들은 이번 주말까지 숙제하는 것을 잊지 마세요.

Jerry and Linda are talking about a situation at work.
제리와 린다가 직장 상황에 대해 이야기하고 있습니다.
Jerry: I don't want to make waves here, but I don't think Kim is making a good financial decision for our company.
여기서 파장을 일으키고 싶지는 않지만, 킴이 우리 회사에 좋은 재정적 결정을 내리고 있는 것 같지 않아요.
Linda: Oh, I don't know. Maybe you just don't see eye to eye? I think she's done a lot of research and knows what she's doing. She's generally quite good at making decisions. It's why they pay her the big bucks.
글쎄요. 서로 의견이 맞지 않는 걸까요? 그녀는 많은 연구를 해왔고 자신이 무엇을 하고 있는지 알고 있다고 생각해요. 그녀는 일반적으로 결정을 내리는 데 꽤 능숙합니다. 그래서 거액의 연봉을 받는 거죠.
Jerry: Well, I understand why you'd think that. You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, just like Kim, and have never really been short on cash. Anyway, it's some food for thought!
왜 그렇게 생각하는지 이해가 되네요. 당신도 킴처럼 입에 은수저를 물고 태어나서 현금이 부족했던 적이 없으니까요. 어쨌든 생각해 볼 만한 이야기입니다!
Linda: To play the Devil’s advocate, making big decisions is second nature to her. She's great at it!
킴의 역할을 대변하자면 큰 결정을 내리는 것은 그녀에게 제2의 천성이에요. 정말 잘하죠!
Jerry: Hmmm...okay. Let's agree to disagree. We're never going to settle this I think.
흠... 알았어요. 의견이 다르다는 데 동의합시다. 우리는 절대 합의하지 않을 것입니다. 합의하지 않을 거예요.

Alice: But unless you bare your teeth, you’ll end up the one who is left out. 하지만 이빨을 드러내지 않는다면, 결국 너는 소외될 거야.
Jack : You’re right! 맞아! When James says it’s a dog-eat-dog world, I don’t blame him. 제임스가 우리는 약육강식의 세상이라고 말할 때, 난 그를 비난하지 않았어.
Alice : Above all, only few are content to make a living by the sweat of their brow! 무엇보다, 이마의 구슬땀을 흘리며 생계를 유지하는 것에 만족하는 사람은 거의 없을 거야.
Jack : You know what? 그거 알아? The thought of this rat race gives me a lump in my throat! 경쟁 사회를 생각하면 목이 메여!

Carl: Where’s the head honcho? 본부장님 어디갔어? Has he left yet? 아직 안가셨어?
Kathy: Yeah, he has 가셨어. The coast’s clear! 문제없어! Come on! 얼른! Let’s get going. 시작하자.
Carl : Did you bring the burgers? 햄버거 가져왔어? I’m starving hungry. 나 배고파 죽겠어.
Kathy : Are you sure we’ll get away with this? 진짜 이렇게 해도 되겠어?
Carl : Stay loose! 편하게 있어. It’s all under control. 잘 되고 있어. I feel myself the big cheese here, not that empty-headed nerd. 난 멍청한 괴짜가 아니라 굉장히 중요한 사람처럼 느껴져.
Kathy : I see! 그렇구나. You’re literally a big fish in a small pond! 너 진짜 작은 연못에 사는 큰 물고기구나!

Peter : How embarrassing! 당황스럽다! Did I ever put my foot in it —I just congratulated Sarah's sister on being pregnant. 내가 실수한 거 같은데, 세라 동생 임신했다고 축하해줬거든. She isn't. 근데 아니야.
Alice: You don’t say! 그럴 줄 알았어! Haven’t you heard the proverb that says “look before you leap”? ‘돌 다리도 두들겨보고 건너라’ 란 속담 못 들어봤어?
Peter : She just walked away. 그냥 가버렸어. I wish the ground would have swallowed me! 나 진짜 땅으로 꺼져 버리고 싶다!
Alice : Never mind. 걱정 마! I’ll straighten it out. 내가 해결해볼 게. But make sure you don’t screw it up once more. 더 이상 일을 망치지 않는다고 약속해.
Peter : I’ll have to apologize to her as soon as possible or do her a big favor. 그녀한테 빨리 사과하거나 큰 보답을 해야 할 거 같아. You know; one swallow doesn't make a summer! 한 번 실수한 거 가지고, 크게 확대하지 말자!
Alice: Fine then! 알았어! You don’t have to go hard on yourself anymore. 더 이상 자책 하지마.
