005 - Nicholas & Jordan Applegate

Jeff & Tanya have a conversation with the Applegates who share their experience of being thrust into the spotlight because of two Facebook posts that together garnered over 9,000 likes. Nick had already considered sharing his story of same-sex attraction publicly, but hadn’t decided to move forward on that. When he and his wife Jordan saw the negative social media reaction to a recent BYU Faculty Address from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, their resolve was solidified and they had a desire to express their belief in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They weren’t expecting such an overwhelming response, both positive and negative, or for the post to be picked up by multiple news outlets and shared even more broadly.

Nick and Jordan also go into detail about the first conversation around Nick’s same-sex attraction prior to their marriage and their decision to step into the unknown and act on faith, despite not being sure what a marriage might look like with that component. They also talk about the importance of open communication in their marriage and their true source of happiness.
