024: The Salt Pans Ultra Race in Botswana with Harvey Lewis, Dale, & Stefan

The Tribe of Runners Podcast

Summary

In this episode, I chat with Dale Ter Haar and Stefan Ortwein who are the race directors of The Salt Pans Ultra Race. And we have Harvey Lewis on the episode to chat about his excitement for this race. And he also asks a few race specific quesitons. The Salt Pans Ultra Race is a unique trail running event held in Botswana's salt pans, known for its extreme conditions and isolation. The race offers two distances, 50K and 100K, and takes place in September to avoid the rainy season. The race directors share a lot about the race and share how the participants experience complete silence and a sense of isolation in the vast white landscape. And The race is challenging due to the heat, lack of shade, and difficult terrain. The race attracts runners from Botswana, Southern Africa, Europe, and North America. The organizers are also promoting trail running in Botswana and offering safari experiences as part of the trip. And are hoping to get more runnings interested in this very unique race!
