Pirates: Totalus Rankium

As someone who came to Totalus Rankium for the Byzantine emperors, it has been amusing to see where Rob and Jamie have decided to go to extend their franchise. The biographical narrative format continues to be a highly illuminating way to avoid generalities while learning about a subject, or at least learning about what drunken “historians” have made up about a subject. If their Roman emperors series is Augustus (the classic) and their American presidents series is Aurelian (taking me back to places I’d been before), then for me the Pirates series is Didius Julianus, an hysterical interlude in between dynasties. But I assume for pirate lovers this would be the Henry Avery or Blackbeard of the Totalus Rankiums. (Which of the series has the coveted “Rex Factor” Factor?) Of course, Totalus Rankium: Star Trek is stuck as Quintillus until Jamie does another one….

The Rankium Boys are at it again! They covered the entire Roman Empire, then the entirety of US history, ranking each leader with the utmost accuracy. Maybe a joke thrown in here or there. Now they are throwing their prodigious talents into ranking not all, not most, but some pirates! And every minute of it promises to be an absolute joy!

I’ve loved their Roman Emperor podcast, and I’m even more excited to have an another highlight to my week! Rob and Jaime do an amazing job of mixing comedy and history! I can’t wait for the rest of the episodes, and to see what’s next! I can’t recommend their podcasts enough.
