    On today’s episode we interview Angela Brooks. As managing principal at Brooks + Scarpa, Angie is responsible for growth in the firm’s housing and policy sectors, leading the firm’s sustainable initiatives, and overall firm management.  Angie Brooks was the first woman ever to receive the Maybeck Award in 2021. She was also awarded the AIA Young Architects Award in 2009. Her firm won the 2022 AIA Gold Medal, 20+ National AIA Awards, the State of California and National AIA Architecture Firm of the Year Award in 2010 and the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award in Architecture in 2014. Angie was also a co-founder and past President of Livable Places, Inc., a non-profit development company dedicated to building sustainable mixed-use housing in the city of Los Angeles.     Replaying our interview with Eva Baker AIA, LEED AP BD+C. Eva is an architect who specializes in laboratory planning. She is currently a Senior Associate and Director of the Philadelphia Office of HERA Laboratory Planners. We talk about: - Eva's pairing of a Bachelor degree in Chemistry with a Master's degree in Architecture so that she could combine two of her passions. - Whether she followed the advice of her mentors to focus on general architecture before diving into laboratory expertise. - I ask Eva what are the important components to consider when designing a lab including structural modules, safety, flexibility, MEP, and equipment and then we also talk about emerging trends in laboratory design like the integration of automation. - We discuss her long path to working at HERA and how consultancy functions differently than an architecture firm. - We talk about her favorite types of projects, skills she looks for when hiring, and how long it takes (spoiler- two years!) to become a lab specialist. - Eva also shares about the challenges she faced when she returned from maternity leave, had to balance office work and pumping, late nights working "parent hours", the constraints of childcare, and the societal and self-imposed stress of motherhood and career progression. - We end by talking about the importance of sharing responsibilities at home so that she and her partner can pursue meaningful careers as well as a successful family life.     On today’s episode of Architectette we welcome Robyn Linstrom.  As behavioral health subject matter specialist at Stantec, Robyn has a broad range of healthcare experience and finds that her biggest joy is working with clients. She gravitated toward healthcare because she believes the built environment can be a partner in supporting healing. She focuses on behavioral health to help destigmatize facilities through design.  We talk about:  - How and why, after 20 years at a previous firm, she decided to join Stantec’s Denver office to help build and expand their healthcare sector in the Western regions of the United States. - Next, we discuss the destigmatization of mental and behavioral health facilities and how patient input, color, wall art, light therapy, and architecture can influence feelings of safety and hope while eradicating the punitive spirit of facilities of the past. - Robyn shares the impact and influence of post-occupancy evaluations regarding staff and patient "quiet rooms" and why these spaces have a huge impact on users’ abilities to decompress and recharge. - We end by discussing how mental health services are transforming for the future.     On today’s episode of Architectette we welcome Chrissie Davis.  Chrissie is a general contractor and founder of San Jose based, Incorage. She partners with developers, subcontractors, and the larger development community to build multi-family and mixed-use housing across the Bay Area. In this episode, we also explore her previous role as President of CORE Builders, where she led the company to triple its business, making it the 25th largest general contractor in Silicon Valley and the “best residential contractor to work for with under 50 employees” in 2023. As President, Chrissie was proud of cultivating a diverse team, comprised of 50% women and 75% people of color, and aims to create a similar environment of success and inclusion as she expands Incorage.     On today’s episode of Architectette we are joined by Ming Thompson and Christina Cho Yoo, the founders of Atelier Cho Thompson (ACT), a New Haven and San Francisco based multidisciplinary practice working between architecture, interiors, graphics, and strategy.  ACT's work frequently blurs the boundaries between typologies, as they draw inspiration from their work in schools, museums, offices, restaurants, and homes around the world. The firm has been awarded numerous national and regional design honors and has been featured in Metropolis, Architect Magazine, Interior Design Magazine, and at the Venice Architecture Biennale.  We talk about:  - The origin story of ACT and how Ming and Christina were inspired by a Parking Day collaboration to start their own firm to pursue projects that complemented their diverse sets of skills and passions.  - Entrepreneurship and Motherhood: Ming and Christina talk about establishing a business while growing their families and how even though they themselves didn’t take maternity leave, we talk about how each founder works hard to make sure their employees are able to do so. - The catalyst for expanding their San Francisco practice with an office in New Haven, CT.
