1.28 - Anything you Can Fake I can Fake Better

Oh the G.O.D.

Are the good old days truly the good old days? On today’s journey Kinsey and Anna are out to find the root of fake news and media manipulation. First, they tumble all the way back to the 40s BCE at the dawning of the Roman Empire. It’s Mark Antony versus Octavian, in one of the first instances of a media campaign based on exploiting scandals. They next land in the 1770s on the eve of the American Revolution. Sam Adams taught the masterclass in media manipulation, with some vitriol and libel thrown in, driving colonists to the first Pizza Gate. Trouble was brewing for sure! Leaping forward about a century and its time to meet Pulitzer and Hearst. Their rivalry to outsell the other led to the birth of Yellow Journalism, which essentially goaded the President into war with Spain. It's possible the CIA explored using condoms to force the damned commies into submission. Kinsey takes us into the present/future with deep fakes galore. Don’t miss this week’s dive through the annals of history where you can at least trust the hosts to tell the truth!
