The Two Types of Bios You Need & How to Write Them

The most painful part about marketing (aside from wondering, "Is this EVER going to work?") is talking about yourself. Or, as my clients sometimes phrase it, "Putting myself out there." Let's talk about that idea for a minute. Putting yourself out there, as though you are an object on the shelf for anyone to look at and snatch up, is awkward, and rightfully so. Good marketing has NOTHING to do with putting yourself out there and EVERYTHING to do with finding common ground with your ideal client. If you work with homeowners who are one or two income brackets above yourself, you might think that finding common ground is a joke. You don't own three homes - but you're sure glad they do! But finding common ground doesn't look like that. Common ground looks like you specializing in a certain type of client or project, and that client or someone with that project being attracted to you for that reason. Your common ground is something YOU CREATE - your desire matches their desire, but you actually have a way to reach their goal...and they don't. One of the best ways to illustrate your common ground is to integrate it into your about page page AND your home page / media bio. Today on The Kate Show, I'm sharing outlines for both of these bios so that you can more effectively establish common ground with your affluent ideal client and start earning their trust sooner. Why Super Successful Home Pros Don't Reinvent Their Marketing Every Year

Without fail, the start of a new year makes many business owners (especially in the home industry) feel like they need to start over with their business management or marketing in some way. As a marketer with over a decade of experience in marketing design, staging, etc., businesses...I call bull crap. The most successful home industry businesses are those that have simple marketing strategies and focus only a few key areas...and are consistent with that SAME PLAN year over year. Should you assess last year's marketing efforts? Absolutely, but sometimes even a year isn't long enough to properly test or assess a marketing strategy. For example, all the blog posts you published last year could gain even more traction NEXT YEAR. All the email marketing you did last year has been priming the amazing lead who is about to contact you with her new project....6 months from now. Marketing in the home industry is a long game because the projects tend to be bigger, take longer, and require significant investment. If you go into marketing with this perspective, rather than expecting fast results with minimal effort, your business is going to stick around. Today on The Kate Show, I'm sharing the key ways that established and profitable businesses in the home industry market themselves. Get your notes app ready - this is going to cut through the noise and give you a solid action plan for 2025. Stream the Kate Show anywhere you get your podcasts or watch it on YouTube and Spotify. 5 Signs You're Marketing Correctly and How to Know if You Aren't

You've just spent all year marketing your business - or trying to - and before you dive into a new year, you're probably wanting to know if you've been on the right track. I know I would! Today on The Kate Show Podcast, I'm sharing the 5 things you should be looking at to appropriately grade your marketing over the last year: Did you stay top-of-mind with leads, past clients, and colleagues every month? In what ways? What measurable impact have you recorded? If you weren't able to track any results, pause. This is literally the most important action step. Without it, you aren't marketing. You're just guessing. Pro tip: Monthly mass emails (newsletters) are statistically the most effective, low-cost way to stay top-of-mind. No algorithm, and no daily content to create. brilliant, beautiful, and simple. Did you land at least three new referral sources (individuals, businesses, or organizations)? This often happens via in-person socializing or job site connections. If you have made new connections, ask one of them to do an Audience Swap with you in the new year. Did you upload new photos of your work to your website at least once last year? This means you should be taking your own photos or getting it done. Photos should be a priority. Did you post updates on your Google Business listing (GBL) at least every quarter? This is assuming your GBL is already set up and completely filled out. Did you set up Google Analytics and connect it to your website? This is the best way to know whether your website traffic has increased and why. Saying "I FEEL like I'm not getting enough traffic," is always the wrong answer. Analytics are concrete evidence. Feelings should not dictate your marketing decisions. If you answered "no" to any of these, you have your marketing plan for 2025. Resources: Stay top-of-mind with high-end clients in the way they prefer - direct email correspondence that feels brilliantly personal.
