    143. REPLAY 89 He will be called Mighty God

Each advent season calls us to ponder the promise of Isaiah 9:6, “For a child will be born to us. A son will be given, and the government will rest on his shoulders, and He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of peace.” Scripture uses many names to describe the members of the Trinity, but these names were given in anticipation of Jesus Christ, our Messiah, the King of all kings, and Savior. You may be able to recite these familiar titles from memory, but have you taken time this season to treasure their meaning?  In this episode, Lori talks about Jesus, “Mighty God” How Jesus shows His might in our lives How to create a “Mighty God” list Promises of God’s might: “Whose power no foe can withstand” (Psalm 91:2, AMPC). 137. Unpacking 1 Timothy 5: Widows in Need vs. Widows Called to Lead

On November 10, many will celebrate “Pure Religion Sunday.” This day is dedicated to living out the biblical call found in James 1:27 to visit the fatherless and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained from the world. Lori reminds us that “pure religion” invites everyone to participate in the practical expression of God’s love. In this episode, Lori dives into 1 Timothy Chapter 5, a passage she encountered shortly after becoming a widow at 38. Initially, Lori misunderstood parts of the scripture, seeing them as a checklist she needed to meet to receive care. However, she discovered that these were actually qualifications for widows in leadership roles in the early church, not a requirement for receiving care.  Lori breaks down each qualification, shedding light on how these apply today, discussing: God’s heart toward the widow and fatherless  The specific list of qualifications for a widow enlisted in leadership vs. those who need care If you are a widow listening today, remember that you are deeply loved by God. Whether you need care or feel called to serve others, know that you have a special place in God's plan. The church is called to stand with you in every season.
