THE MCCLAIN MATTER YOURS TRULY, JOHNNY DOLLAR

THE MCCLAIN MATTER YOURS TRULY, JOHNNY DOLLAR

Bob Bailey, generally thought of as the most popular of the Johnny Dollars, brought a new interpretation to the character – tough, but not hard-boiled; streetwise, but not overly cynical, Bailey's Dollar was smart and gritty when he had to be. But Bailey's Johnny Dollar was also human. His character would get emotionally involved in a number of his cases. He had a streak of impatience, and would occasionally not fully listen to a witness and rush off on a tangent before realizing his mistake.

The weekday serialized episodes are generally acknowledged as some of the finest radio detective shows ever produced. There were fifty six multi-part shows in all: fifty four five-part shows, one six-part show, and one nine-part show. The serialized episodes continued until November 2, 1956 when the series again reverted to a once a week, thirty minute format. Bob Bailey continued in the lead, until "The Empty Threat Matter" of November 27, 1960, when the Hollywood run ended.Support our show and checkout www.simplisafe.com/1001! HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL HOMECOMING and COMANCHE

HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL HOMECOMING and COMANCHE

Crime dramas and westerns dominated radio back in 50-s and one of the most popular radio wasterns, along with Gunsmoke, was Have Gun Will Travel.. Have Gun – Will Travel is an American Western series that was produced and originally broadcast by CBS on both television and radio from 1957 through 1963. The television version of the series was rated number three or number four in the Nielson ratings every year of its first four seasons, and it is one of the few shows in television history to spawn a successful radio version AFTER the launch of the TV version. Most radio shows came before and transitioned to TV. That radio series debuted November 23, 1958, more than a year after the premiere of its televised counterpart. (Usually radio came first). The TV show have Gun Will Travel was created by Sam Rolfe and Herb Meadow Of the 225 episodes of the television series, 24 were written by Gene Roddenberry-who gave us Star Trek.
This series follows the adventures of a man calling himself "Paladin" (played by Richard Boone on television and voiced by John Dehner on radio), taking his name from that of the foremost knight warriors in Charlemagne's court- the subject of a future episode at 1001 Heroes. He is a gentleman gunfighter who travels around the Old West working as a mercenary for people who hire him to solve their problems.

His permanent place of residence is the Hotel Carlton in San Francisco, where he lives the life of a successful businessman and bon vivant, wearing elegant custom-made suits, consuming fine wine, playing the piano, and attending the opera and other cultural events. He is an expert chess player, poker player, and swordsman. He is skilled in Chinese martial arts and is seen in several episodes receiving instruction and training with a Kung Fu master in San Francisco. Ah…grasshopper. He is highly educated, able to quote classic literature, philosophy, and case law, and speaks several languages. He is also president of the San Francisco Stock Exchange Club.

THE UNFAIR LADY and THE EBONY LINK PHILIP MARLOWE DETECTIVE

THE UNFAIR LADY and THE EBONY LINK PHILIP MARLOWE DETECTIVE

The Adventures of Philip Marlowe was a radio series featuring Raymond Chandler's private eye, Philip Marlowe. Robert C. Reinehr and Jon D. Swartz, in their book, The A to Z of Old Time Radio, noted that the program differed from most others in its genre: "It was a more hard-boiled program than many of the other private detective shows of the time, containing few quips or quaint characters."

In 1948, the series moved to CBS, where it was called The Adventure of Philip Marlowe, with Gerald Mohr playing Marlowe. This series also began with an adaptation of "Red Wind", using a script different from the NBC adaptation. By 1949, it had the largest audience in radio. The CBS version ran for 114 episodes. That series ran 26 September 1948 – 29 September 1950..

Great but...

I love old school radio drama. Been listening for years. On AM radio before I found this podcast.

My only beef is the Progressive insurance ad that plays repeatedly. Assumes everyone has a “cleaning lady” come to their new house?

Please. That idea and assumption is as old as these replayed broadcast. And in case your wondering, no, I’m not talking about a historic ad for Lucky Strikes or Signal Oil.

This is modern ad. And it’s inappropriate. Makes me mad every time is I hear it. Which is several times per episode.

Reminds me of how much I appreciate my chosen insurance company. Geico. They run funny ads. Not crusty offensive stuff like said beef.

Rigged spin wheel ,

More cleaning ladies than ever these days handling their business

Reading reviews huh? Trying to decide to listen or not likely. Here’s the time saver...J. Hagadorn= a great host and narrator. The show? = Fantastic and insightful with a dash of memory lane for those familiar. New wisdom for those first time younger listeners packed with entertainment.
Take it from me and thousands of other reviewers. TAKE IT FOR A SPIN! No regrets! If for some odd reason it’s not one of your 1001 favorites a clean break to something else it’s super easy. Good thing that won’t be an issue...
So listen for free with one short progressive commercial funding the other 99% of the content seeing That its nothing like 1 out of 1000 reviews may claim. We all just hope your days get better mr and ms haters.
Dont forget to Support mr hagadorn on the easy funding options he offers when you fall in love with the shows. I say “DONT forget” since you’ll be soon drawn in by this mans content then get back in the action.
So it’s easy, just like, subscribe, and leave a kind word for all he does. Review shopping is over! Cheers!
