Veterans of Culture Wars

I have never heard my own concerns voiced so clearly and compassionately! Trying church after church, wanting to ensure my kids grow in the faith, but being forced to leave because the churches I have tried to belong to weren’t teaching biblically accurate information and the political charge and propaganda was so obvious to me. As a Christian who grew up in a Muslim country I so looked forward to more religious freedom when I moved to the US! Not the case! Churches are clearly charged for political gain, and as a Californian I’m mocked often for even being a Christian (not the case back in my Muslim country) you finally explained and clarified this to me. Not only will I rush to Patreon to support your podcast but you gained a loyal fan. And to Roula, thank you for bravely (and somehow calmly) sharing facts that our world tries to deny. We ARE the original Christians, we came to Christ and stayed in the faith generation after generation. We know HE is the way, and he came for everyone! Sending you so much love and support Roula!

So much of Evangelical culture is about obeying leaders, being good followers and accepting “God’s ways are higher than our ways” as a means to suppressing the questions that should be part of a robust faith. I appreciate the ways that Dave and Zach model an authentic audit of our beliefs, without expecting tidy answers or an easy way out.

This is not a scorched earth podcast where they dunk on religion to make soundbites. These are two men betrayed by faith working the through the ramifications- like so many of us are. They bring on fantastic guests with a variety of views and always do their homework so the conversations are deep. A great addition to your faith work!

Zach and Dave are solid, thoughtful interviewers. I appreciate how they are pretty open about how they think about things, but they don’t push people to agree- just to exam. They’ve had a really excellent collection of guest, including some really amazing scholars and activists. They’ve done a fabulous job of bringing in many people who occupy margins of faith and faith activism. I am a big fan of the duo and look forward future episodes.
