Does holding firm on your pricing make you uncomfortable?

In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks with guest Jamilah Bashir about advocating for our businesses and standing firm on our pricing.

Jamilah Bashir is a special education teacher of 16 years turned educational consultant who just negotiated her first independent consulting contract.

Dr Shenelle DuBose and Jamilah Bashir explore ways of dealing with clients that try to pay less than what we ask for, how to encounter that with clear, professional, and firm communication and highlighting in particular:

Don’t just offer one service, always create multiple packages that are customisable
You have to advocate for your business and respect your pricing - stick to your price even when facing resistance
Respecting your pricing is respecting our business and the quality of your work
The wording of your contract is very important; clauses and disclaimers need to be crystal clear
Fostering confidence in communicating our professional boundaries gets easier with practice

“The price is the price. You have to advocate for your business, and you have to make people respect your business because some people could look at it as, “Well it’s a small business”, but it’s a business, it’s MY business. I have put my blood, sweat and tears into this business, so you’re going to respect my business and what my price is and all that I bring.”
