    The spirit of collaboration is needed now more than ever, and it is up to us to explore how we can all benefit, in order to thrive in an ever changing society. In this week’s final episode of Our 4th Annual Divine 9 Series, we are joined by Randy Becton, Jr., Upsilon Omega Chapter Initiate of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. Known to many as the Slauson Activist, Randy is a dedicated community outreach coordinator and child development specialist from South Central Los Angeles. Currently, he is majoring in Education Technology at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). As the Program Coordinator for Black Scholars Matter at CSUN, find out why he believes alternative online curriculums will serve as an engaging and productive alternative to the K-12 school system, and why it is time for everyone to reflect on a personal mission statement that will benefit all communities, as a result of the recent election. ⁠ Randy will soon complete his M.Ed. in Education Technology at CSUN, where he also completed his Bachelor of Arts in Child and Adolescent Development. This proud Fall 2023 Initiate of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. and John Muir Middle School alumnus began his career there in 2012, teaching Black and Chicano History, Life Skills, and Enrichment activities through the TYME Foundation. During the 2020 pandemic, he taught Black American History at Augusta Hawkins High School African American Academy via Zoom. Driven by the need for positive role models, he launched impactful initiatives: Fatherhood: The Best Hood, Journaling for Teens, and Put the Youth in the Booth. A former public speaker with Sandy Hook Promise, Randy now runs Slauson Ave Activist LLC, a media company creating educational products and media to inspire change.     The complexities of this life have caused many people to suffer for years with unrealized trauma that has stunted personal growth and prohibited some from actually fulfilling their goals. In this week’s episode of Our 4th Annual Divine 9 Series, we are joined by Kharee Hoggs, Theta Epsilon Chapter Initiate of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Studying Law initially interested Kharee until she discovered a stronger interest in serving youth in the juvenile justice system. She decided to major in Sociology and minor in Social Work at the University of Southern California (USC). As a Teaching Assistant for the USC Prison Education Project, find out why she believes it is important to step away to restore your mental health, and why she believes our due diligence is still key in future elections. ⁠ Kharee will soon complete her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at USC, and she is currently applying to Master of Social Work programs to enhance her knowledge on how to compassionately and respectfully support communities and people in need. In addition to serving as a Teaching Assistant, she is also a Grade Level Coordinator for a book club at Magnolia Elementary School in Los Angeles, CA. With an interest in becoming a therapist, this Spring 2022 Initiate of the Elite Theta Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. serves as the chapter’s Historian and has dedicated her education to uplifting the voices and spirits of youth affected by the foster care and/or juvenile [in]justice system.     Immigration continues to be a major concern for so many around the world. What if you were given the opportunity to study abroad and show your support for disadvantaged communities through your advocacy efforts? In this week’s episode of Our 4th Annual Divine 9 Series, we are joined by Nila Roper, Beta Iota Chapter Initiate of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Writing and thinking critically came naturally for Nila, and with the encouragement of her mother, she decided to major in English and minor in Comparative Women’s Studies at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. As a student currently studying abroad in a “Migration and Social Change” program, find out why she decided to travel to Cuernavaca, Mexico, and why she believes it is important that we continue to vote in future elections. ⁠ Nila is currently a third-year student completing her major in English and her minor in Comparative Women’s Studies at Spelman College. Hailing from New Rochelle, New York, she loves writing for her school newspaper, the Blueprint, and co-leading in the Ashietu African Drum & Dance Ministry. As a Fall 2023 Initiate of Beta Iota Chapter Initiate of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., she has an interest in pursuing Journalism as a combination of her passions for both writing and social justice work. She also studied journalism abroad in Oxford, England and she is a member of the Alpha Lamda Delta Academic Honor Society.     When you were a child with a vivid imagination, what did you dream about? In this week’s episode of Our 4th Annual Divine 9 Series, we are joined by Elijah Williams, Lambda Xi Chapter Initiate of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. As a young person raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Elijah loved to build things using his LEGO set. With his creative imagination and a desire to design and engineer, he grew up and decided to leave his hometown to focus on a major in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in African American Studies at Arizona State University (ASU). Find out how this popular engineering program has contributed to his desire to pursue a career in Theme Park Engineering and why he is excited to vote and ensure he has a say in the outcome of his future during this year’s election. ⁠ Elijah is currently completing his major in Mechanical Engineering and his minor in African American Studies at ASU in Tempe, Arizona. He is a member of the Theme Park Engineering and Design Club and he serves as Treasurer for the Black African Coalition. Born in Las Vegas and raised in Atlanta, Elijah aspires to become an intern in the Mattel Theme Park Internship Program. As a Spring 2024 Initiate of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., he was fortunate enough to attend the Congressional Black Caucus and he looks forward to taking advantage of the various networking opportunities within his brotherhood of engineers.     163. When the Sky Is Not the Limit with Kennedy McIntosh

    Making the most of your college experience requires you to step outside of your comfort zone and open your mind to the various possibilities you may have never thought possible. In this week’s episode of Our 4th Annual Divine 9 Series, we are joined by Kennedy McIntosh, Upsilon Chapter Initiate of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In an effort to be closer to her family during COVID, she left the initial college she committed to, so she could complete a dual enrollment program at the University of Southern California (USC). In addition to completing both her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and her Master’s degree in Studies in Law, she discovered she had another interest in becoming a Chief Pilot. As a result, she recently completed her pilot training at the U.S. Aviation Academy in Denton, Texas. Find out how she used her college experience to explore all of her interests and how her Greek organization has helped her stay emotionally grounded during this election season. ⁠ Kennedy completed both her Master of Studies in Law with an emphasis in Business, and her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science/Engineering at USC. She served as a teaching assistant, Resident Assistant, Gibraltar Intern, and Environmental Science/Engineering Intern at Northrop Grumman. In addition to completing her pilot training through the Southwest Destination 225 Cadet Program, she also plans to explore Senior Executive roles within various sectors of the aviation industry. To support this vision, she is actively involved in organizations such as Women in Aviation and the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals.     162. Embracing the Path to Your Dream Job with Caleb Armstrong

    The pursuit of your dream job is often considered Plan A, but life’s responsibilities may cause you to consider a side job or what many consider Plan B. So, what if Plan B aligned with Plan A? Would the dream still be worth the pursuit? In this week’s episode of Our 4th Annual Divine 9 Series, we are joined by Caleb Armstrong, Gamma Epsilon Chapter Initiate of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. During COVID, Caleb decided to participate in a theatrical Zoom production of ‘The Colored Museum’ at the suggestion of his advisor. He did not know what to expect, but he thoroughly enjoyed the experience and is now in pursuit of a Theatre Arts degree at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. Find out how he maintains his desire for a career in Acting while he waits for his dream job to come along, and why he believes Generation Z will be the most important voice in this year’s upcoming election. ⁠ Caleb is currently completing his major in Theatre Performance and his minor in Leadership Studies at Hampton University. He has thrived by taking part in several productions that have included both musicals and dramatic plays. In Spring 2024, he also became the Phi Mu Chapter member of the Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society. Caleb’s long-term goal is to be a professional actor in television and film, and he plans to attend graduate school, preferably the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale.     When COVID caused life as we knew it to shut down for an unforeseen time, some students discovered a passion that led to the pursuit of a degree they did not see coming. In this week’s episode of Our 4th Annual Divine 9 Series, we are joined by Khaleb Byrd, Polemarch of the Zeta Gamma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. In an effort to maintain a connection with friends and his love for computers during COVID, Khaleb and his friends decided it would be fun and economically sound to build their own computer. This passion project led him to pursue a degree in Management Information Systems and Accounting at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Find out how he plans to get the word out about voting on his campus and why he gives his father credit for his tenacious spirit of dedication and commitment to getting the most out of his college experience.⁠ ⁠ Khaleb is currently a third year Management Information Systems and Accounting Scholar in the College of Business at Coppin State University. He recently completed an internship at Koniag Government Services in Virginia. Hailing from prestigious Prince George’s County, Maryland, he has served his college as a member of the Student Activities Programming Board, Strong Men Overcoming Obstacles Through Hard Work (S.M.O.O.T.H.), and First Lady Wellness Challenge for his fraternity. He has also served his community by serving elderly Meals on Wheels, as well as serving youth in summer enrichment programs and football camp.     Volunteering in your community cannot only benefit the people you are helping, but it can also benefit you by potentially introducing you to a career you might love. In this week’s episode of Our 4th Annual Divine 9 Series, we are joined by Mikayla A. Lomax, President of the Beta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. As a result of being a community volunteer throughout her life and recently serving as a Nurse’s Intern, this third-generation legacy sorority member aspires to be a Labor and Delivery Nurse upon completion of her degree in Nursing and Psychology at Kentucky State University. Find out why she is motivated to vote in this year’s election as a second time voter and why it is important to stay focused and develop a strong reputation on campus. ⁠ Mikayla is currently completing a double major in Nursing and Psychology at Kentucky State University, a HBCU that ranks among the top five in the field of Nursing in the country. As the proud daughter of Robert Lomax, Jr. and MeKeeba Lomax, she is a graduate of the Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Indianapolis Chapter Teen group. Through this organization, she received awards signed by President Barack Obama for outstanding service to the community. For several summers, she has served as a volunteer youth counselor at inner-city summer camps, worked at homeless shelters, volunteered in local food banks, and created care packages for those in need. Mikayla is a graduate of Charles A. Tindley Accelerated High School where she was an honor roll student and served as a student ambassador since middle school.
