The “hope” in St. Padre Pio’s famous proverb “Pray, hope, and don't worry” is an active verb. When I try to skip from “pray” to “don’t worry,” I can’t “do” the “don’t worry.” That’s because I need to EXERCISE my hope. I need to lean on my trust in God. The letter to the Hebews chapter 6 says our Christian hope is like an anchor. And not just any anchor. It’s an anchor that’s firmly fixed in the presence of God Himself. It’s the ultimate, immovable anchor. We need to hold on to it! Because there aren’t any promises that we are going to live without getting into a few storms. Grab hold of that there anchor chain, mateys!
