#171 Myths and Truths of Foster Care

His Heartbeat with Sue Corl

Reverend Cheryl Kincaid grew up in an abusive home. As an adult in seminary, she began to work with children in foster care and group homes, and she recognized a God-given assignment to advocate for young people who experienced a similar trauma to what she went through.

Rev. Cheryl understands that there is a hesitation for many families to take in foster children based on the stereotype that they are troubled. This stereotype does reflect an element of reality; that tragically, many of these children have been abused and have not had the opportunity to develop healthy habits in stable environments. However, while there will be a hill to climb, you would be making an indelible mark on the life of a child who desperately needs a loving home.

Fostering a child reflects the selfless love of Christ because to love someone, truly, is to allow yourself to be vulnerable. I know so many of us desire to see the next generation prosper. Are we collectively willing to ensure no child is left behind?
