This show serves as a gathering space for people who love horror. The host is superb. I’ve gotten so many book and story recommendations and discovered several authors through these conversations.

I started listening to Talking Scared when I was adrift. At a job I didn’t like, reading only a few books a year, and being a thoroughly non-horror person. Blazing through the back catalogue of Neil’s earnest interviews and ramblings has changed my life for the better. Now I’m the writer I always wanted to be. I read books from the authors on this show every week and enjoy them each time. More importantly, though, I know what to look for in bookstores and libraries no matter how small and have become a big genre fiction/horror fan, all through Neil’s good work. If you’re coming here to read more books, you’ve found your show. If you’re coming here to have a writing community unto itself, you’ve found your show. Or if you’re just looking to make friends with an enthusiastic reader and writer who loves talking about books, Neil is definitely your guy, and you’ve found your show. Talking Scared deserves to be at the top of every list. The consistency and joy that Neil brings each week makes this the coziest place on the internet.
