The New Evangelicals Podcast

I love this podcast! Tim is an incredible host. I didn’t grow up in the Evangelical church, but I did grow up in a very traditional, conservative Lutheran church. Once I started attending a nondenominational church I began to realize that I didn’t necessarily agree with everything my church growing up believed. This podcast is a feel good one for me because it helps validate my own deconstruction of faith and provides a safe space for me to explore that without judgement and pressure.

The Affordable Care Act was actually a compromise on what Democrats tried to get passed. Obama wanted Congress to pass a Medicare type healthcare for all people. The majority of Democrats were in favor, however, there were a few “blue dog” Dems and all republicans that made that impossible. So ACA was designed as a compromise and modeled after plans that existed in Massachusetts.

You are intense in expressing your feelings. We need that. It would better aid your rhetoric by researching your claims before exclaiming then so boldly. Examples include your on Stephen Miler as the Border Czar. There is a person named as border czar and it isn’t Miller. And the effort to include “denaturalize” immigrants makes no sense unless you use the correct term “denationalize,” which is taking away an immigrant’s US citizenship legally obtained through the nationalization policy provided in the US Constitution. When Tom Homan, Trump’s pick for Border Czar, was asked about family separation—a policy he created during the first Trump administration—he said families would not be separated. Everyone in the family including children with birthright citizenship would be deported. Kick ‘em all out. I am an American of Japanese descent, born here in the good old US of A. When FDR signed Executive Order 9066 at the start of WWII, he authorized the unconstitutional incarceration of ALL persons of Japanese descent including aliens (legal immigrants) and “non aliens” (citizens) living on the west coast of the US. The Feds love to use euphemisms to mask the truth. More interesting is why EO 9066 was enacted. Look up the latest government investigative findings of the 3 principal reasons to remove these people from the west coast, 2/3 of whom had birthright citizenship, all of whom lost property and treasured family heirlooms because they were allowed to take only what they could carry. We need to realize that Americans still harbor deep seated prejudices and that a unified multiracial/multicultural America remains an aspirational goal.

After beginning deconstruction mid-2019 and then watching evangelicalism spiral during the pandemic, I felt so very alone. No one in my family or friend group really fully understands what it meant to unravel an entire lifetime of toxic doctrine, or they flew through deconstruction and can’t relate to the journey it has been for me. I am so grateful to have the New Evangelicals as a sympathetic group of “friends” who put words to a lot of feelings I’ve been having over the last few years.
