    154. Friendships in Midlife: Why They Change, End, and Grow Stronger

This episode is brought to you by TCP Youth Empowerment. Every child deserves someone in their corner. To sponsor a child, visit TCP to 44-321 or visit https://www.tcpyouthempowerment.org/ Friendships are one of the most important pieces of our health and wellness puzzle, but in midlife, they can look very different than they did in our 20s or 30s. Some friendships fade, some deepen, and some need a little “redesigning” to stay healthy and supportive. In this episode, we get real about the ups and downs of friendships in our 40s, 50s, and beyond. From the pain of being ghosted by a lifelong friend to the relief of no longer putting up with draining relationships, we explore how midlife changes our approach to connection, boundaries, and community. We share personal stories—both heartbreaks and joys—and talk about why friendships are not just emotional, but also physical health lifelines. You’ll hear about redesigning relationships, the role of boundaries, and why even one or two solid friendships can be more powerful than a dozen “okay-ish” ones. In this episode: Why some friendships naturally fade (and why it’s not always about you) How to “redesign” a friendship before letting it go The role of confidence, clarity, and boundaries in midlife relationships Why loneliness—physical or emotional—can harm health more than you realize How strong friendships can become an essential part of your wellness journey Resources:  Intuitive Eating Starter Kit: Use code PODCAST to get this for just $14 https://elizabethharrisnutrition.com/starterkit Trainers: Become the Go-To Expert at Your Gym with Tara’s free mini course: https://www.taradeleonfitness.com/ Connect with us!    The Ultimate Self Care Planner: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.ck.page/9e817ab37e   Elizabeth Harris, MS, RDN, LDN FB: Health and Healing with Intuitive Eating community https://www.facebook.com/groups/healthandhealingwithintuitiveeating Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ElizabethHarrisNutrition Free download to break up with diet culture: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.com/invisible-diet   Tara De Leon, Master Personal Trainer Email: FitnessTrainer19@hotmail.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tara_de_leon_fitness Join Tara’s Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/5290e3f13e08/email-signup Maria Winters, LCPC, NCC Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coaching_therapist/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/MWcoachingtherapy Website: www.thecoachingtherapist.com

    153. Why Do We Resist the Things We Know Are Good for Us?

We all know what we “should” do: move our bodies more, eat in ways that support us, stick to the habits that make us feel better. But actually doing those things consistently? That’s where resistance shows up. In this episode we unpack resistance, such as the excuses, fears, and old belief patterns that can keep us stuck even when we know what we want. From the intimidation of walking into a gym to the frustration of not seeing results fast enough in therapy, resistance shows up in sneaky ways across health, wellness, and life. We share personal stories, client experiences, and even a trainer’s unlikely journey that started with just sitting in her car outside the gym. You’ll hear why resistance isn’t a failure, how small “bare minimum” steps can build momentum, and why self-compassion is essential for lasting change. In this episode: How childhood experiences and shame can shape resistance as adults The role of all-or-nothing thinking and learned helplessness Why resistance often masks itself as “I don’t have time” or “I’ll start later” The power of micro-steps, short-term goals, and finding your “why” Why self-compassion—not guilt or blame—is the real motivator for change Resources mentioned in this episode: Exercise Snacks: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/wellness-rebranded-intuitive-eating-diet-culture-mental/id1651744916?i=1000717469519 GLP1: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/wellness-rebranded-intuitive-eating-diet-culture-mental/id1651744916?i=1000718560588 Connect with us!    The Ultimate Self Care Planner: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.ck.page/9e817ab37e   Elizabeth Harris, MS, RDN, LDN FB: Health and Healing with Intuitive Eating community https://www.facebook.com/groups/healthandhealingwithintuitiveeating Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ElizabethHarrisNutrition Free download to break up with diet culture: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.com/invisible-diet   Tara De Leon, Master Personal Trainer Email: FitnessTrainer19@hotmail.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tara_de_leon_fitness Join Tara’s Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/5290e3f13e08/email-signup Maria Winters, LCPC, NCC Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coaching_therapist/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/MWcoachingtherapy Website: www.thecoachingtherapist.com

    152. The Biggest Loser Exposed: How a TV Show Fueled Diet Culture and Harmed a Generation

The new Fit for TV documentary on The Biggest Loser has us fired up. This reality show wasn’t just “entertainment,” it reshaped diet culture, fitness, and the way we think about bodies in ways that were harmful, abusive, and dehumanizing.    In this episode, we’re breaking down why the show was so damaging and what it means for how we approach health today. This documentary was a stark reminder that your body isn’t a spectacle, you don’t owe anyone a before-and-after picture, and health should never come at the cost of your dignity. In this episode: How The Biggest Loser normalized extreme and unsafe weight loss practices. The ripple effects it created in gyms, workplaces, and wellness programs across the country. Why diet culture about profit, not health. Weighing benefits vs costs of weight loss programs. Red flags to look out for in trainers, programs, and “health” challenges. What compassionate, sustainable, and whole-person wellness actually looks like. This episode is brought to you by Jukestir. 151. Weight-Neutral Fitness: Training for What Your Body Can Do with Mark Breedon

What if your workout had nothing to do with the number on the scale—and everything to do with what your body can do? This week we’re joined by Mark Breedon, an online personal trainer who helps women build lasting confidence by getting stronger than they ever imagined. His weight-neutral philosophy shifts the focus away from aesthetics and toward strength, health, and independence because life-changing results aren’t just about how you look, they’re about what you can do. Mark shares how he went from chasing bigger biceps to falling in love with powerlifting, and how that transformation led him to create a coaching approach free from weigh-ins, before-and-after photos, and body measurements.  In this episode: How training for strength can be more fulfilling and sustainable than training for weight loss Real-life examples of clients discovering their strength (yes, even in their 70s and 80s!) Why women often thrive in a strength-based program The biggest mistakes the fitness industry makes about motivation and “discipline” How to set non-aesthetic goals that keep you excited to train Connect with Mark: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/training.strong.women/ The Badass Lifter Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/badass-lifter-podcast/id1490017694 Register for Maria’s online workshop on Compassionate Listening on August 27th! https://maria-winters.mykajabi.com/upcoming-workshops Connect with us!    The Ultimate Self Care Planner: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.ck.page/9e817ab37e   Elizabeth Harris, MS, RDN, LDN FB: Health and Healing with Intuitive Eating community https://www.facebook.com/groups/healthandhealingwithintuitiveeating Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ElizabethHarrisNutrition Free download to break up with diet culture: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.com/invisible-diet   Tara De Leon, Master Personal Trainer Email: FitnessTrainer19@hotmail.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tara_de_leon_fitness Join Tara’s Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/5290e3f13e08/email-signup Maria Winters, LCPC, NCC Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coaching_therapist/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/MWcoachingtherapy Website: www.thecoachingtherapist.com

    147. How to Cope with GLP-1s, Weight Loss Trends, and “Skinny Culture” Triggers

We’re in an era where GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy are everywhere. On TV, in social media feeds, at the doctor’s office, and in everyday conversations. And while these medications may be helpful or even life-changing for some, they’re also bringing up a lot of complicated feelings for many others, especially those who are choosing not to take them, or are trying to navigate their use in a weight-centric world. This episode holds space for those feelings. We’re not here to judge anyone’s decisions. Whether you’re on a GLP-1, thinking about it, or actively avoiding it, this conversation is for you. Because no matter what, you're making decisions in a culture steeped in weight stigma, misinformation, and unrealistic expectations. In this episode: Why seeing GLP-1 use everywhere can be triggering—even if you support body neutrality The influence of diet culture, media, and peer pressure on health decisions Personal reflections on navigating this era in a larger body Questions to ask yourself before making health-related decisions How self-compassion and boundary-setting can protect your mental health Reframing weight loss narratives: why thin doesn’t always mean healthy A reminder that you don’t know anyone’s full story Sign up for Tara’s Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/5290e3f13e08/email-signup The Ultimate Self Care Planner: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.ck.page/9e817ab37e   Elizabeth Harris, MS, RDN, LDN FB: Health and Healing with Intuitive Eating community https://www.facebook.com/groups/healthandhealingwithintuitiveeating Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ElizabethHarrisNutrition Free download to break up with diet culture: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.com/invisible-diet   Tara De Leon, Master Personal Trainer Email: FitnessTrainer19@hotmail.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tara_de_leon_fitness Join Tara’s Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/5290e3f13e08/email-signup Maria Winters, LCPC, NCC Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coaching_therapist/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/MWcoachingtherapy Website: www.thecoachingtherapist.com Attend an Emotional Fitness Studio Class: https://thecoachingtherapist.com/emotional-fitness-studio/
