4/12/23 Tracey Baptiste "Mermaid and Pirate"

We talk with writer Tracey Baptiste, who wrote a much-discussed piece for the New York Times a couple of years ago in response to widespread criticism of Disney for casting a young black actress as Ariel in their upcoming live action remake of The Little Mermaid. Baptiste's essay explained how mermaids show up in the folklore of all kinds of cultures all around the world. She has just written a new children's picture book titled 'Mermaid and Pirate."
