I have come to realize on my own journey that you can’t ever change something permanently when you hate it. It seems like a contradiction. After all, if you didn’t hate what you want to change, then you wouldn’t want to change it, right? This can be a very tough concept to get your head around, but bear with me today as I take a shot at explaining it to you.
Remember, situations themselves do not create negative emotions. Situations are neutral. It’s what we think about situations that create negative emotions. When we look at it from that perspective, it starts to make a little more sense. We aren’t ever going to feel better about something if we don’t think differently about it.
If you are thinking discordant thoughts, how can you expect to find a harmonious solution? Most of us don’t realize this, though, because we are programmed simply to avoid pain and seek pleasure, and negative thoughts therefore sometimes make us feel stuck. You cannot hate your way to a solution.
