#52 "The Pleasure, Hilarity, and Ache of Empty Nesting" with Christine Maziarz Neuro Queering: Beyond the Intersection of Neurodiversity and Queerness

    • Society & Culture

This is an empowering, entertaining, and hilarious episode! Christine is an empty nest coach and the host of the Your Empty Nest Coach podcast. Her focus in on coaching parents before they empty nest, with the goal of the parent feeling whole on their own.
Christine is such a pleasure. She is brilliant, compassionate, and funny. Plus, she laughs at all of my jokes, so I talk WAY too much during this episode.

She and I have a heart warming conversation about how the whole family empty nests and grieves, including the pets.
I share how I ache for my adult kids to be home and try to find ways to connect via text.
Here's my best tip: Become a "Shitologist" so your kids call you when their poop looks weird.
Christina's tip, which is far more useful: Use the family pets to connect with your adult kids.
We discuss boundary setting and letting go of expectations.
We talked about how often parents who are empty nesting are also typically experiencing job and marriage transitions.
We laugh about our ADHD tendencies and how we use Tik Tok to celebrate them and laugh about them. And, yes, we know this episode was not about ADHD, but you have to see the part about the ladybugs. Seriously, this may be a fun one to watch on YouTube (link: https://youtu.be/UVHslxo00Y0)

In a rare moment when I take a breath or swallow, Christine shares her insight on important self care "Tool box" tips like "it is important we create our own narrative"
She role models beautifully ways to embrace the journey and get excited about creating your empty nest. I had so much fun talking to her, it was hard to say goodbye...just like it is when your Netflix series ends.

Enjoy this light-hearted, high-vibration, whole-hearted episode!
