In the Space Between with Esther Boykin
What does it really feel like to be a Black man in today’s society? Beyond the prescribed narratives we see in media and grow up within our families, who are Black men? “The Space Between” is a podcast for and about black men and the intimate stories that make up their identities, lives, and relationships. Join host, Esther Boykin, LMFT, CEO of Group Therapy Associates and a celebrity therapist as she creates space to weave a more honest and complex understanding of what it means to be Black and male: one personal story at a time.
Why do black women center black men who exclude them?
16/08/2022
Black women and girls are in crisis, but black mental healthcare professionals are mum to our experience. Completely ignoring the fact that black women and girls are dying, a black woman therapist chooses to center black men. Why? This is why I stress the race of your therapist doesn’t matter. You can find a white therapist that is less partial and biased to your experience than a black therapist might be. Black women and girls, get help where you can, disregard race, because the community of black mental health providers does not have your back.
