Pulpit Fiction Podcast

Pulpit Fiction is my go-to weekly source for preaching the lectionary. Episodes are usually very timely to what’s occurring in the world and Eric and Robb help relate the texts to life right now. The contextual analysis of the texts is always helpful and I appreciate the curating of lectionary resources into one engaging show!

I have been listening to Eric and Robb for as long as I have been preaching (about 7 years). I love the way they tackle the passages and I love the little intro’s to each section. I rely on their wisdom, particularly with tough readings. I visit their website for the show notes often but listen to the podcast even when I’m not preaching. There is sensitivity to what’s happening in the world, and some humor, too. I don’t think this is just for preachers. I listen before I lead Bible studies. Even if you’re a seasoned pastor, I think you will find something useful with Eric and Robb.

I’ve been a lay preacher in the Episcopal church for about a year and my instructor pointed this podcast out to me. On weeks when I’m preaching, I take notes to help me edit and organize my thoughts and when I’m not preaching, I listen to learn more about both scripture and theology. I also enjoy the friendly banter between the hosts. One caution is that the Episcopal Church has made some variations in the Revised Common Lectionary and the hosts, not being Episcopalians, don’t follow those, which can very occasionally cause confusion. This podcast is a must for anyone wanting to learn!

I have enjoyed this podcast for several years now. I find it helpful for sermon preparation and for giving me a different perspective on the Revised Common Lectionary. I recommend it to all my clergy friends.
