#82: How to Be Your Own Publicist & Promote Your Books in the Media

You absolutely could hire a professional publicist, and if you have the money to invest several thousand dollars in one, then that’s something you should absolutely consider. Getting your book out there in the world rather than relying solely on your tiny “bubble” of contact on social media and even with your subscribers is the most important and effective book marketing strategy ever. But if you’re like most authors, investing thousands, even if it’s a worthwhile and smart investment in your author career, is just not feasible. Believe it or not…you can absolutely act as your own publicist and you can pitch media contacts and secure appearances entirely on your own. It isn’t easy, mind you, but it’s okay…I GOTCHU! In this episode of Successfully Selfpublish, the podcast, I sit down with veteran and super popular publicist to authors, Ashley Bernardi of Nardi Media, to chat about how you can and should immediately begin pitching media opportunities even before your book is published. We’ll also talk about Ashley’s top tips for nailing your pitches and increasing your chances of getting booked! Highlights from This Episode: Ashley talks about the importance of book publicity   7:53Ashley gives us her thought on the best type of media for book promotion  11:56        How to begin pitching for the first time as an author  16:27When you should actually begin pitching media outlets  23:10Ashley’s best tips on finding the right media contacts to pitch  30:17Whether you need a Media One Sheet and what that is  35:59Ashley’s top takeaway tips on self-publicity   38:59 Important Links Mentioned in this Episode: Work with Christina Kaye HERE. #81: How to Build a Unique & Magnetic Author Brand with AG Billig

Your brand is about so much more than a logo and the colors you choose to use. It’s the promise you make to readers every time they come across your content that tells them who you are, what you write, and what they can expect from you every time you share anything with them. Many authors don’t think to create a cohesive and complete brand, but not only is it important to do so, it’s something you should do long before you even create your first piece of content or put anything out there into the world. Your brand should not just represent you as an author, it should also act as a magnet, attracting those readers who are actively seeking to buy and read books just like yours. And if you take the time to build it properly, that’s exactly what will happen – you’ll draw in hundreds and thousands of your target audience, and they’ll find it much easier to get to know, like, and trust you, which is the foundation for gaining loyal customers. But how do we set up an author brand that is unique and magnetic? In this episode of Successfully Selfpublish, I sit down with another selfpublishing professional, AG Billig, and we discuss every single actionable step you can and should take to build an effective and attractive author brand, so you can immediately begin finding and connecting with your target audience of readers and they can get familiar with you and the promise you make to them every day. Highlights from This Episode: The first step is knowing your identity as an author  6:25Deciding what you want to share with readers   10:25Choosing your brand color palette 17:18Deciding on your brand fonts to use in content 19:05Should you create and use a logo 25:08How to create a hooky tagline or slogan 32:53Putting all the elements together to build your brand  38:53 Important Links Mentioned in this Episode: Work with Christina Kaye HERE.
