The Soccer Psalms – Psalm 11

This past December, I released a new book, The Soccer Psalms, as a self-published. (You can also find The Football Psalms-a British version-if you appreciate the different terms around the game). Both books are available globally on Amazon and contain 31 psalms that have been translated into “soccer psalms” — with words, language, and metaphors that connect soccer to God’s Word. I also include some reflection on the context and writing as well as some questions for reflection. Check out the book! The Soccer Psalms: https://mybook.to/thesoccerpsalms The Football Psalms: https://mybook.to/thefootballpsalms-uk Today, on the podcast, I read—Psalm 11 and Soccer Psalm 11—from the book, and share the reflection and mediation questions. In competitive sport, we need to be reminded and exhorted towards fair play. As athletes, we may see others who bend and break the rules unfairly to their advantage—a malicious tackle, a dishonest hand raised, or the cutting of some corner. Although VAR exists in the Beautiful Game today, not everything is seen—but God sees. God knows. And he will bring justice. We can cry out to him. Injury can be one of the most difficult times in someone’s career — how do we get through those times? What role does faith play in healing and recovering from an injury? Is it selfish to pray to God for healing when there are so many other things going on in the world? Listen to learn more. Often times, a coach, or a person in management/leadership position can feel that they are going through a drought. Success is hard to come by. Where can we turn in such moments? A coach might turn to a president or owner for that show of support or to know that they have your back; we (as Christians) can turn to God. Listen to learn more!
