    reaching for the next level in your art career or just getting started as an artist

    a beautiful friend recently asked about resources for artists. as i pondered a list for her, i realized that the resources that help us get started as artists are the same resources that can help us when we get in a rut. whether you're a new or seasoned artist, as you listen/read the list, may your heart tell you 3 or so resources you can focus on right now to get you going, or get you back in the studio feeling inspired or with new direction/vision. what a gift it is to create!! wherever you are in your creative journey -- please keep moving forward. our heavenly parents created you with wisdom, beauty and all the confidence that you too can and will create. we were created to create!! sending so much love to you and your creative loved ones!

    patisserie commission install AND supporting our kids on their non-traditional education & life paths

    CANDYcolored STUDIO podcast episode 243: a french pastry shop! what a dream to paint this sweet painting for the sweetest of families. special thanks to todd, carl and carsten -- todd for his craftsmanship, problem solving and for all three of their support!! they are the best -- soo much grattitude! i'm sharing some raw and personal stories of our older kids -- teens and two are now adults. what a joy it is to be their mom - to learn from them, to watch them and to cheer them on! from homeschool, alt high school, culinary school, home mtc and more -- hear all about the challenges and surreal joy that comes as they have followed their hearts. god has truly sent this sweet generation for a time as this -- because THEY knew these kids could handle it, face the hardships, fall at times and ultimately thrive thanks to our savior and redeemer jesus christ and the guidance of our heavenly parents. love love love them! soo much happening in the utah art scene right now: make sure to go to the 135 show & four lemons, 1000 show, the compass gallery and the utah masters studio tours. it's a great season to enjoy and support art!

    artist family expectations: success is putting in your dues…or is there more to it?

    CANDYcolored studio podcast episode 242: a few years ago, an artist who i love and admire shared with me that her family felt she shouldn't be "already" experiencing success in her art career because she hadn't "put in her dues" yet. this was mind-blowing to me. if there was ever a place to find your biggest supporters, it should be your parents and family -- especially when your parent is an artist!! i'll be sharing some thoughts on this experience and a couple others of mine and that have been shared with me. sometimes it really is too easy to look at our own perceived "lacking" situation and simply decide that it's either not our fault or someone else's fault. but who really has the power and the responsibility to change our situation? what can we do to fix things in our own realm?

    swiss days is here!! sharing heavenly mother in our homes & hearts through art

    CANDYcolored studio podcast episode 240: a sneak peek of new pieces i'll be bringing to midway swiss days!! are you coming?!! it's friday august 30th and saturday august 31st from 8 am till dark. i'll attach a map below where i've circled my booth A-40 which is south of the the entertainment tent, next to the huge evergreen trees. text me if you can't find me at the event (435.709.2780). i've been sending my email list peeks, here is a link to the latest email. if you're not on my list and would like to be, sign up here. prints start at $45 and the largest framed are $295. original oils start at $200 for a framed circle mini. there are paris pieces, landscapes, florals with birds, bees etc. i'll have some larger pieces and even some very large pieces (up to 48x96). my favorite moments of swiss days are the intimate and spiritual conversations shared. the great majority of these special chats have been on the topics of our heavenly mother. it never surprises me the desire we as women have to know our divine feminine. you're so loved and i hope if there's one thing you get from experiencing my art -- it is that your divine parents and savior love you personally. below you'll also find 18 links to previous CANDYcolored studio episodes about heavenly mother - interviews with authors, poets and some solocasts as well.

    the 100th spring salon: director emily larsen on work in this latest exhibition and a retrospect of the past 100!

    dear friend, artist, and the director of the springville museum: emily larsen and i chat about 17 of the 276 pieces in the 100th annual spring salon. she also shares with us the great heritage and some memories associated with the springville salon. springville museum is truly the art center of the state of utah. so much goodness converges in this sweet space and thanks to all that are associated with it: the collectors, the donors, the artists, the visitors, the families that bring their young children, the quilters and quilt lovers, the students who participate in the high school show and the outreach provided by museum staff -- on and on --!! together, we make up a beautiful tree, working together and supporting one another in our quest to create and support creation. the overall spirit of this show is felt by all the 1450 pieces created and submitted to this exhibition. as you visit online and in person, you'll feel that creative spirit that is prevalent in utah. this spirit is what encourages and supports us all as we continue to create. it is a living and breathing organism. and thank you to each of you who constitute this wonderful spirit of creation in utah!!

    being a disruptor in art & creative businesses

    CANDYcolored studio podcast episode 238: not long ago, my dear creative friend leslie smoot was sharing her latest adventures, challenges and vision for her film career. she and her coworkers are finding new ways to produce and fund their projects and she talked about being a disruptor in the film business. so what does it look like in other creative businesses – especially for artists? we’ll chat about 7 traits of disruptors: entrepreneurial mindset, risk taking, vision, agility, persistence, creativity and understanding. i’ll share some specific examples i’ve seen in my career and in my local community. there’s some great opportunities for collectors and artists this spring: upcoming shows, fundraisers and the 100th springville museum of art “spring salon”. collectors & artists, come join in the celebration on opening night and submit your work artists!! this week’s red pill: “sometimes the stories we want to hear the least are the stories we need to hear the most.”

    buying art materials in bulk, ways we grieve, world peace & mind control

    what are the best places to buy art materials? there are great places online and locally but i have found buying in bulk to be the most helpful for me. do you ever think about "world peace" and what that would look like? which are more important to you: peace or agency/free will? which do you think will make the biggest difference in our world? loss, betrayal & change — everyone I talk with is grieving someone or something. grief is an uncomfortable but necessary part of life. when we don’t face or work through our grief it can come back later with a vengeance interrupting or triggering us at the most inopportune times. it’s normal to be affected by grief time and time again, but the more we bravely walk through it or talk about it, the easier it becomes and the more we can learn from the experience. what are you & your loved ones grieving? what helps you most as you process your grief? who needs your help most in their grief?
