    A conversation with Brett Barnes_LEGENDS @ THE PIER -EL SALVADOR

    Our guest this week is a Surfer that relocated to Maui at an early age to live the Surfer’s Life in Paradise.  Surfing all day and working in restaurants and retail to make ends meet.  He got a job at Hobie and was very fortunate to have Dick Metz as a mentor and quickly climbed the ladder from part-time to running and buying for all Hobie Surf Shops at the young age of 23.  He is also a restauranteur with over 4 Decades at Duke’s as GM and Managing partner.  From Maui, to Malibu, to Huntington Beach, he has been a fixture at Huntington Beach serving up Aloha and great Hawaiian food and drinks to all those that walk through the door for the last 25 years.  Duke’s has been a staple and cornerstone restaurant in Surf community as a sponsor, supporter for local Surf Contests, Fundraisers, and specialty events.  Now he is taking all his knowledge down to Surf City El Salvador to launch a restaurant and help manage their tourism/hospitality division.  We welcome the amazing talented Mr. Brett Barnes.

From working as a physical therapist to repping for O’Neill Snow, his hustle never stopped. In 2004, after his cousin Brandon McGuinness (RIP) was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, he co-founded the F C Cancer Foundation—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on early detection and prevention. As Executive Director and CEO, he’s dedicated his life to pushing the Foundation’s mission forward. We’re stoked to hear about his journey, the legacy he's building, and the future he’s shaping.     Our guest this week is a legendary surf filmmaker. He’s been instrumental in launching and elevating countless pro surf careers, not just through his iconic SNAPT film franchise, but also as an agent, manager, life coach, therapist, and even bankroller. One of the most unselfish humans we know, he once helped raise money for a prosthetic leg for Costa Rican ripper Daniel Meléndez Dávila. The last few years have been incredibly challenging for him, with a heavy load of family trauma and, on top of that, being robbed of $150,000 by a professional theft ring, which he courageously helped expose and bring to justice. Yet somehow, through all the adversity, he persevered and delivered what might be his most anticipated film yet.
