Lessons from the American Film Market Pitch Competition: How to Master Your 2-Minute Film Pitch

In this episode, I share my experience participating in the American Film Market’s Pitch Competition and the valuable lessons I learned about pitching film and TV projects effectively. Whether you’re pitching a feature film or a series, these 10 essential elements will help you craft a compelling, concise, and market-ready 2-minute pitch. From creating a captivating hook to highlighting your unique selling point, this guide is packed with actionable advice to help you stand out to buyers and investors. Lessons Covered: • Start with a Captivating Hook: Open with a powerful statement or question that immediately grabs attention and sets the tone. • Create a Compelling Logline: Summarize your story in one polished sentence that highlights the core plot and stakes. • Highlight Your Unique Selling Point (USP): Explain what makes your project stand out—whether it’s the story, animation style, or market appeal. • Introduce Key Characters: Briefly describe the protagonist and a couple of key supporting characters, focusing on their arcs or unique traits. • Establish High Stakes: Clearly outline what’s at risk and why it matters, creating urgency and emotional investment. • Define Audience and Market Appeal: Specify who the film is for and how it fits into the current market landscape. • Describe the Artistic Vision: Highlight the tone, visual style, or unique storytelling approach to make your project memorable. • Use Industry Comparisons: Reference successful films or creators to help buyers contextualize your project’s potential. • Share Key Production Details: Mention the budget, timeline, and any notable collaborators to show your project’s feasibility. • End with a Confident Call to Action: Conclude with a clear invitation to discuss next steps, demonstrating belief in your project. Bonus Tip: Practice, practice, practice! Ensure your pitch flows naturally, stays conversational, and is under two minutes while hitting all the key points. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (Gregory Maguire) In-Depth Book Discussion

Welcome to our 33rd episode in the monthly book discussion series hosted by Marisa Serafini (@serafinitv) and myself, Phil Svitek. If books are your passion, you've come to the right place! In this episode, we delve into Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West which is a novel by Gregory Maguire that inspired the successful musical and now movie adaptation. Wicked is a darker and more adult-themed revisionist exploration of the characters and setting of the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, its sequels, and the 1939 film adaptation. It is presented as a biography of the Wicked Witch of the West, here given the name "Elphaba". The book follows Elphaba from her birth through her social ostracism, school years, radicalization, and final days. Maguire shows the traditionally villainous character in a sympathetic light, using her journey to explore the problem of evil and the nature versus nurture debate, as well as themes of terrorism, propaganda, and existential purpose. Join the conversation! Share your thoughts, queries, and viewpoints in the comments or connect with Marisa (@serafinitv) and me on social media. In our upcoming discussion, we'll explore Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton.
