A Podcast of Biblical Proportions dives into ancient Hebrew history. Our time machine is the countless texts the ancient Hebrews wrote, including stories, historical accounts, songs, poems, prophecies, laws, rules, and regulations. Most of these texts can be found in the Hebrew Bible, aka the Old Testament or the Tanakh.
This English-speaking podcast brings a new perspective to reading the Hebrew Bible — that of the person who wrote it, immersing ourselves in his world and perspective. We started with Genesis chapter 1, and have been proceeding in the order in which the texts appear in the Bible.
Join Hebrew-speaking writer and editor Gil Kidron on a journey of biblical proportions into the lives of ordinary people living through extraordinary circumstances. Since Judaism and Christianity came out of their writings, the ended up laying the groundwork for so much of human culture.

A storyteller's look at the Hebrew Bible
As the podcast has evolved since Omri had to leave it has only become more and more fascinating. Gil is presenting scholarly work that I wish that academic researchers would pay attention to. He is showing compelling evidence that in the Hebrew Bible, the histories are complemented and completed by the stories. It’s radical (in the scholarly sense) and very difficult to dismiss. It deserves more than 5 stars and it deserves a be taken very seriously. (Edited February ‘24)
This is a new favorite of mine, looking at biblical narratives from a storyteller’s perspective opens up the Bible and allows it to be seen as a human document instead of a divine one. Hearing the Hebrew, even though I don’t understand it, is powerful and the nuances lost in translation to English are fascinating to hear. As enjoyable as the content is the joy that Gil and Omri take in each other’s company. There’s a warmth in their relationship that is very pleasant and comfortable. I truly love hearing their delightful accents as well. A very easy 5 star rating.
Enlightening
The perspective of two Hebrew speakers reading the Bible in its original language is extremely valuable and eye opening.
I greatly enjoyed understanding the story of Joseph and its connection with the book of Jeremiah and his scribe Baruch ben Neriat.
